Job Summary

Graduate Assistant for Student Engagement

Reporting Relationships:

This position reports to the Associate Dean of Student Engagement

Compensation: $10500 stipend plus room and board

Hours: 20 hours/week


Basic Function:

The Graduate Assistant (GA) for the Office of Student Engagement plays a vital role in fostering a vibrant connected campus community through strategic communication program coordination and student organization support.


Essential functions include but are not limited to:

  1. Create a weekly newsletter of upcoming events for students to be distributed university-wide
  2. Create content for social media outreach and engagement
  3. Review and update the website content relevant to the office of Student Engagement
  4. Maintain updates and implementation of the Student Organization handbook
  5. Oversee Student Engagement Spaces upkeep (Gator Alley Commuter Lounge Student Engagement Lounge Supply Closet)
  6. Coordinate materials marketing event planning and training for over 30 Student Organizations
  7. Assist Associate Dean with all large-scale event planning for the campus community (Registration Days Orientation Weekend Welcome Week Gator Fest Christmas Dinner Senior Class Events etc)
  8. Provide guidance to the Student Government Association and Campus Activities Board with their campus wide events and spring semester elections
  9. Gather data on outreach retention growth and assessment content related to Student Engagement and student involvement
  10. Assist Associate Dean on any projects programs and campus partner collaborations as needed


Qualifications:

  • Knowledge:Bachelors Degree required. Must be enrolled in a graduate studies program. An understanding of student development theory and how to translate theory to effective practice is essential. Candidates should also understand best practices in communications as well as student programming for non-residential and non-traditional student populations exercising and promoting a vibrant inclusive campus environment in their daily actions
  • Experience: One to two years of student programming experience at undergraduate level. Preferred experience working with Constant Contact Canva Microsoft Forms and Social Media platforms
  • Skills/Aptitude:This position requires administrative skills supervisory skills the ability to work effectively with students families staff and faculty. Excellent customer service with the ability to build strong connections with students and campus partners is a must
  • Working Conditions:Normal office environment 20 hours/week with twelve-month live-in position. Room and board provided; meal plan included when the dining hall is open. Serve on-call evenings (Professional on Duty (POD)) weekends and holidays as a part of a shared rotation schedule. Must remain on campus at least one (1) weekend each month and notify all appropriate staff when absent from campus. Required POD training will be held the week before the start of each academic term. Some evening and weekend hours.
