TITLE: UMS Recapture Summer Program Coordinator
LOCATION: Urbana Middle School
SUPERVISOR: This position reports directly to the Program Director and building administration.
JOB SUMMARY: The UMS Recapture Summer Program Coordinator is responsible for establishing a developmentally appropriate summer learning environment. The mission of the program is to develop young students into creative and critical thinkers through in-depth experiences in a unique learning environment while preparing them for next school year.
PROGRAM DATES: June 8 - July 16 2026
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
To perform this job successfully the individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily:
- Lead staff to prepare creative and engaging enrichment activities.
- Implement non-digital lessons in a developmentally appropriate classroom environment that assists students assigned to the classroom with achieving specific educational goals.
- Work with staff to create classroom environments that are welcoming to all students.
- Collaborate with staff assigned to the classroom to develop general classroom procedures goals schedules behavioral expectations and classroom activities for students.
- Plan and implement activities inside and outside of the classroom that expose a teen to a variety of learning experiences and broaden the teens perspective.
- Take daily attendance and complete other required documentation as assigned.
- Review develop and requisition materials for the classrooms.
- Work in partnership with the staff to plan and encourage family involvement in the education of their children.
- Supervise students as assigned by the Principal and/or program director.
- Perform any and all additional duties as assigned by the Program Director or Building Administration.
- Take an active role in scheduling onsite schedules and field trips including completion of bus request forms
- Maintain and reconcile budget related documentation and report information to the administrative team in a timely manner. Manage program logistics (assign rooms manage materials and resources) meet deadlines follow protocol (allergies medication fieldtrips student safety) complete required reports and provide required documentation.
Minimal Educational Requirements:
- Bachelors Degree from an accredited college or university with certifications and endorsements as applicable.
Experience:
- Classroom experience preferred.
- Type 75 preferred
- Prior experience working in leading an after school or summer program preferred but not required.
- Internal applicants only.
Licenses/Credentials:
- Valid Illinois Teaching License with the appropriate endorsement.
- Type 75 license preferred.
Other skills and abilities:
- Ability to assess children and knowledge of childhood development.
- Ability to communicate and work effectively on a collaborative team.
- Ability to effectively work with students with a history of behavioral social/emotional and/or developmental disabilities.
- Knowledge of trauma-informed practices and responses.
Terms of Employment:
- Daily hours TBD four days per week June8 - July 16 2026. The district will be closed on Fridays June 18 for Juneteenth and July 6th for the July 4th holiday.
- Position is for summer programming only when the program is in session.
- Development and leadership at an orientation meeting is expected prior to the start of this program.
Evaluation:
- Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Boards policy on evaluation of professional personnel.
NOTE:
- This position is not part of the collective bargaining unit and is not administrative in nature.
- Position contingent upon grant funding.
- Preference given to internal building staff and will be open to district staff to help fill positions.
- Hourly Position - $42/hour plus planning stipend of $1000.
