Job Overview

Tekberry is seeking a Lead Equipment Installation Mechanical Technician to support large-scale manufacturing equipment installations for our client a global leader in advanced materials and manufacturing technologies.

This senior-level role is responsible for leading complex mechanical installation projects and supporting capacity expansion initiatives within a manufacturing environment. The technician will provide hands-on leadership and technical expertise for equipment installation debugging and startup while ensuring compliance with engineering specifications safety standards and project schedules.

The Lead Technician will collaborate closely with engineering teams vendors and installation crews to deliver reliable manufacturing equipment installations. This position also serves as a technical mentor and subject matter expert guiding junior technicians and supporting continuous improvement efforts.

Responsibilities

Equipment Installation & Mechanical Integration

Lead and execute complex mechanical installations for manufacturing equipment and capacity expansion projects
Perform advanced mechanical tasks including rigging leveling alignment torqueing piping and system integration
Interpret engineering drawings schematics blueprints and installation manuals to support installation activities
Align test and calibrate mechanical systems after installation
Verify equipment installations meet OEM specifications safety requirements and quality standards

Troubleshooting & Equipment Debug

Diagnose and resolve complex mechanical issues during equipment installation and startup
Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions and mechanical interferences during installation and commissioning
Perform repairs and adjustments on mechanical systems including pumps motors conveyors hydraulics and pneumatic systems
Implement mechanical solutions to improve equipment capability and manufacturing process performance

Leadership & Installation Coordination

Serve as on-site Lead Technician directing installation teams technicians and subcontractors
Assign daily tasks monitor installation progress and ensure efficient use of labor and resources
Mentor and train junior technicians through hands-on technical instruction and guidance
Serve as the primary technical liaison between field teams engineers project managers and vendors

Project & Engineering Support

Lead or participate in manufacturing engineering projects related to capacity additions and production line installations
Support development and execution of installation project plans and schedules
Collaborate with engineering teams suppliers and project managers to resolve installation issues
Coordinate materials tools and equipment required for installation activities

Quality Assurance & Documentation

Conduct installation inspections and quality checks during project execution
Complete installation reports checklists punch lists and as-built documentation
Support equipment testing startup commissioning and customer acceptance activities
Maintain accurate engineering and operations documentation

Continuous Improvement & Operational Support

Identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability safety and manufacturing efficiency
Support development of spare parts strategies and documentation for newly installed equipment
Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and best practice implementation across project teams
Provide operational training and technical support for production teams during equipment transition

Must-Have Qualifications

Associates degree in Mechanical Technology Engineering Technology or related technical field
High school diploma considered with significant relevant hands-on experience
Minimum 3 years of experience supporting equipment installation in a manufacturing environment
Strong knowledge of mechanical systems including hydraulics pneumatics bearings gear systems and conveyors
Proven ability to read and interpret engineering drawings blueprints schematics and technical documentation
Hands-on experience using mechanical tools power tools and diagnostic equipment
Experience troubleshooting and repairing industrial mechanical equipment
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
Ability to manage multiple priorities within a fast-paced project installation environment
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and basic computer systems for documentation and reporting

Preferred Qualifications

Experience supporting manufacturing line installations and equipment startup projects
Experience leading installation teams or supervising technical crews
Background working in industrial manufacturing semiconductor energy or advanced manufacturing environments
Experience with vendor coordination and supplier management during equipment installations
Familiarity with CMMS systems SAP or Maximo
Experience using CAD systems
Certifications in Millwright HVAC Welding or Mechatronics trades
OSHA or industrial safety certifications

Work Environment

Overtime and occasional off-hours work may be required depending on project timelines
Work performed primarily on the manufacturing floor supporting equipment installations and line startups
Project work may involve collaboration across facilities in Newton and Hickory NC
