Job Summary
The De Beers Group has an opportunity within the Protective Services Department at the Product Sorting Facility in Yellowknife Northwest Territories for a highly motivated Security Officer. Reporting to the Protective Services Operations Centre Supervisor the incumbent will support all stages of site security monitoring while carrying out core security duties within the Product Splitting Facility (PSF) in Yellowknife. The ideal candidate is efficient with a strong attention to detail. This position may require ad hoc travel to Gahcho Kué Mine (in the Northwest Territories).
Key responsibilities:
The Security Officer duties include but are not limited to:
- Incorporating safety in all aspects of the security program;
- Liaise with security and operational personnel;
- Monitoring alarms access control and communications;
- Acknowledging and/or responding to all alarms;
- Monitoring specific persons of interest throughout the facility (focus monitoring);
- Coordinating security response activities recording security events and prepare activity reports;
- Responding to security and emergency incidents;
- Conducting searches in the designated area or elsewhere as required in accordance with DeBeers policies and procedures;
- Conducting searches of baggage toolboxes and equipment;
- Maintaining surveillance by monitoring live activities and reviewing digital recordings within high-risk security areas using closed circuit television (CCTV) and distinguishing between approved and unauthorized processing activities;
- Performing guarding and patrolling duties within and external areas of the facility;
- Acting as an escort for visitors service/maintenance staff throughout the facility as required;
- Participating and assisting with the delivery of security presentations;
- Travelling to site as required to provide short term assistance to site base security team as well as escorting of shipments from GK site; &
- Attending to other Security needs as directed by Security Supervisor or designate.
The role is based within the Product Splitting facility (PSF) in Yellowknife and is a contract position until June 2027 with the possibility of extension.
Qualifications :
- Experience acknowledging and responding to alarms conducting searches (baggage tools equipment) and managing emergency or security incidents according to policy;
- Comfortability with performing regular patrols (internal and external) focus monitoring of persons of interest and escorting visitors or shipments as required;
- Physically fit with the ability to walk take the stairs and stand for long periods on regular basis;
- Demonstrated ability to integrate safety into all security activities while adhering strictly to DeBeers policies procedures and operational standards;
- Experience with monitoring CCTV alarms access control systems and communications while identifying unauthorized or suspicious activities;
- Proven proficiency in office management procedures and protocols including document control and data entry;
- Proficient in the use of the Microsoft Suite of programs;
- Experience working in a cross cultural (Indigenous) environment;
- Experience working in the mining industry on a remote site;
- Previous experience working in security or law enforcement would be an asset; &
- Knowledge of relevant security legislation including PIPEDA Criminal Code of Canada and Human Rights Legislation would be an asset.

Preference will be given to Members of the Deninu Kué Lutsel Ke Dene First Nation North Slave Métis Alliance Northwest Territory Métis Nation Tlicho Government or Yellowknives Dene First Nation followed by non-indigenous residents of the Northwest Territories or a resident of the Northwest Territories.
