Job Description
POSITION: SPI Community Assistant
QUALIFICATIONS: Current student at Eastern Mennonite University (Graduate or Undergraduate)
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Program Setup & Closeout
- Collaborate with SPI and EMU staff to prepare residential and program spaces prior to the start of SPI including dormitories classrooms and common areas.
- Set up SPI information tables and lounge spaces in the Martin Chapel Common Grounds and Campus Center and prepare classroom materials across multiple campus buildings.
- Participate in end-of-program breakdown and general clean-up of dorms classrooms and shared SPI spaces.
Participant Support & Residential Life
- Coordinate with the SPI Lodging Coordinator to support participant arrivals and departures.
- Foster a welcoming inclusive and safe living environment for participants and guests in Northlawn.
- Welcome check in and orient new arrivals to residential spaces and campus life.
- Lead at least one dorm orientation per session introducing participants to SPI community norms schedules and expectations.
- In collaboration with SPI staff respond to participant needs questions and special requests.
- Participate in an on-call rotation (mornings evenings and weekends) to address concerns and respond to emergencies as needed.
- Support participant check-out processes and offer hospitality during departures at the end of each session.
Community Engagement & Program Support
- Contribute to the planning and facilitation of evening and weekend activities including community events and special meals.
- Serve in rotation at the SPI Information Table in the Campus Center Greeting Hall providing front-line support by answering phones assisting participants and instructors and sharing program information.
- Provide additional support to SPI programs and activities as needed in collaboration with the broader SPI team.
Preferred (Optional) Qualifications
- Ability to drive EMU vehicles for program-related errands and community activities (pending EMU approval).
- Certification to operate a 10-passenger EMU van for transportation needs.
POSITION DETAILS:Student Summer Campus Employment (40 hours/week) for five weeks from May 13th June 16th 2025. Lodging in Northlawn Residence Hall will be provided (and is mandatory) for the duration of SPI.
