Manager, Group Expense Performance & Analytics
Job Summary
Whats the role
Youll play a central role in how Westpac understands and manages its Group cost base. Sitting within Group Finance youll deliver clear driver-based insights on expense performance across forecasts targets and peer benchmarks helping shape Executive and Board decision-making.
Partnering closely with divisional functional and line-of-business finance teams youll turn complex expense data into concise actionable insight. Youll explain cost movements challenge assumptions support planning and target setting and provide forward-looking scenario analysis to improve decision-making.
This is a high-impact individual contributor role with broad stakeholder exposure across Group Finance. Youll also simplify and automate reporting processes strengthen controls across data and models and create capacity for deeper analytics and higher-value insight.
This is a permanent full-time opportunity based in Sydney with flexible hybrid working. This opportunity is open to interstate applicants.
What will I be doing
- Provide driver-based analysis of Group expense performance across the cost base cost growth and key expense categories against forecasts targets and peer benchmarks.
- Deliver clear variance analysis commentary and forward-looking insights for senior Finance stakeholders.
- Support Executive and Board materials through robust modelling sensitivity analysis and scenario planning.
- Partner with divisional functional and line-of-business finance teams to improve the quality of expense insights and business decision-making.
- Maintain strong controls across data models and reporting outputs including reconciliations review checks and documentation.
- Identify opportunities to simplify standardise and automate reporting to improve speed quality and impact.
What do I need
- Experience in Group or Divisional FP&A performance or expense analytics within banking or financial services.
- Strong understanding of planning forecasting and performance reporting cycles.
- Advanced Excel capability and experience with TM1 or a similar enterprise planning or general ledger platform.
- Strong financial modelling variance analysis and scenario planning capability.
- Ability to translate complex financial data into clear actionable insights for senior stakeholders.
- Strong control mindset commercial judgement and attention to detail.
- Strong communication presentation and stakeholder partnering skills.
- Experience with BI and reporting tools and confidence working with large data sets.
- CA / CPA qualification or working towards one is desirable.
