Position Overview
The Nurse Manager II for Utilization Management (UM) and Discharge Planning is responsible for overseeing clinical and operational performance within an acute care setting. This role ensures effective patient throughput compliance with regulatory standards and high-quality patient outcomes. The position involves leadership of case management and utilization review functions with accountability for team performance resource utilization and care coordination.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage Utilization Management and Discharge Planning teams
- Oversee patient care delivery processes to ensure efficiency and quality outcomes
- Ensure compliance with regulatory standards (e.g. Joint Commission Nursing Practice Act federal and state requirements)
- Manage departmental budgets and financial performance
- Drive quality improvement and patient safety initiatives
- Develop and implement strategic plans aligned with organizational goals
- Monitor and improve key metrics such as length of stay and readmission rates
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including physicians nursing staff and administration
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
- Minimum 5 years of experience in patient care delivery
- Minimum 5 years of experience in healthcare operations business operations or related field
- Minimum 4 years of leadership experience in a healthcare setting
- Recent experience in Utilization Review (UR) Case Management or Discharge Planning within an acute care hospital
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in a unionized hospital environment
- Project management experience
- Strong data analysis and reporting skills
- Experience with emergency preparedness planning
- Demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally across departments
