ABOUT THE POSITION

SubstituteSchool Health Nursesare a key ingredient to student success. We are looking for substitute nurses who can join our quest in the physical mental and social development of the kids in Boyle County. The Substitute will assist withspecialized care within the permitted scope of practiceincluding various nursing procedures relating to students in a school setting in the absence of a regular employee.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

This position requires:

  • Certificate in practical nursing from an accredited nursing training program.
  • Valid Kentucky license to practice asan LPN (Licensed Practical Nurse) or ADN (Associates Degree in Nursing).
  • Valid CPR Certification.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The following are listed for reference. Success will involve the ongoing demonstration of desire and ability to perform responsibilities effectively efficiently pleasantly and with a focus on student success.

  • Report to the building principal or school secretary upon arrival at the school building.
  • Review with the principal department head or team leader all plans and schedules to be followed during the day.
  • Maintain the established routines and procedures of the school.
  • Coordinate care and student emergency action plans related to diabetes seizures asthma allergies and use of emergency medications i.e. Epi-Pen Glucagon and Diastat.
  • Report to the District Health Coordinator parents school staff health care providers clinics and other agencies on school medical matters.
  • Serve as a resource person to school personnel pupils parents health care providers and various organizations.
  • Assist with the program for handicapped or chronically ill and aids in the appropriate placement of students with exceptional needs.
  • Provide specialized health procedures appropriate to the students handicap and give support to parents and teachers of these students.
  • Assist in prevention and control of communicable diseases.
  • Assist in maintaining a first aid station in all schools.
  • Assist with non-instructional duties in other areas of the building or district as assigned.
  • Participate in staff activities meetings training and events.
  • Operate standard school equipment technological devices and related software programs.
  • Maintain student records as specified while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Strict adherence to the Policies and Procedures of the Boyle County Board of Education the Employee Handbook and Kentucky Revised Statutes.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Follow all policies rules and procedures to which regular teachers are subject and which good teaching practice dictates.
  • Carry out other professional responsibilities including punctuality reliability care of equipment and materials planning communication confidentiality and following district and school policies.
  • Ability to use technology for a variety of purposes including but not limited to supporting instruction accessing and manipulating data professional growth and productivity communicating and collaborating with colleagues parents and the community and conducting research/solving problems. Strict adherence to the Policies and Procedures of the Boyle County Board of Education the Employee Handbook Code of Ethics for Certified School Personnel and Kentucky Revised Statutes.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Students and Instructional Assistants.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Regularly required to use hands for simple grasping and fine manipulatives.
  • Regularly required to communicate effectively using speech vision and hearing.
  • Frequently required to stand; walk; and stoop kneel crouch or crawl.
  • Occasionally required to sit and climb or balance. Occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision distance vision color vision peripheral vision depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  • Requires activities involving being around commercial transportation exposure to marked changes in temperature (above 100 degrees and below 32 degrees) and humidity and outside weather conditions.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
  • Occasionally will walk on slippery surfaces.
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.
