SUMMARY:
The Mayors Office of Management and Budget (OMB) is the City governments chief financial agency. OMBs staff of analysts and experts assembles and oversees the Mayors expense and capital budgets which fund the services and activities of approximately 90 City agencies and entities.
The DOHMH Unit is responsible for the fiscal oversight and policy coordination of the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner the Office of Community Mental Health and the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene which is one of the largest public health agencies in the world. This oversight role involves preparation of the financial plan through analysis and development of proposals to optimize the use of resources and requests to fund new initiatives; monitoring agency expenditures operations and key programmatic indicators; and participating in special projects and Citywide initiatives to facilitate efficient agency operations.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
The DOHMH and OCME Unit is seeking an intern to assist the unit in its work related to public health and the services and programs provided by the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene Office of Chief Medical Examiner and Office of Community Mental Health. As part of their work the intern will collaborate with members of the unit to assess current public health performance indicators across a range of public health program areas including Family and Child Health Environmental Health Early Intervention Health Equity Mental Health Epidemiology and Public Health Data as well as the work of the Medical Examiner. The intern will assess indicators that the unit currently uses and will work to identify other indicators that can be used to better assess programs. The goal is to ensure that the current range of available information is being used as effectively as possible. The intern will also assist the unit with other projects as they arise.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Strong analytical process and project management skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with proven ability to work collaboratively and effectively interact with all levels of the organization.
- Strong intellectual curiosity and interest in public/health policy.
- Very strong technical knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
REQUIREMENTS:

Undergraduate interns must be currently enrolled or accepted into an accredited college or university. Strong analytical research and communications skills are required. Candidates must have familiarity in MS Word and Excel
To participate in the OMB Summer Internship Program undergraduate students must be enrolled or accepted into a college or university.
Compensation/Duration:
Summer Undergraduate Intern$17.50 per hour
Internships will run for 10 weeks from June 1 2026 to August 7 2026. The work must be done during the regular workday 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. no evenings or weekends.
This is a hybrid position with in-person days located at OMBs offices at 255 Greenwich Street

Qualifications :
As of June of the Program year the prospective intern must be a student matriculated in a college or be a recent college graduate (winter/spring term of the Program year).
NOTE: Appointment to this title is only valid for the duration of the Program June - August each year.
