Job Title: Teacher Cosmetology - CTE Center (26-27)

Primary Purpose:

Create engaging hands-on learning experiences that help students develop technical and professional skills in the field of cosmetology preparing them for industry certification employment and lifelong success.

As the instructor launching our brand-new cosmetology program at the College Station ISD Career and Technical Education Center you will play a key role in building the programs foundationdeveloping curriculum setting up the lab and salon environment and recruiting students who are excited to explore careers in the beauty and wellness industry.

Qualifications:

Professional Experience Education or Certification:

  • Must hold a valid Cosmetology Operator License or Class A Barber Operator License issued by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR)
  • Relevant work experience in a salon spa or related cosmetology setting

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Knowledge of cosmetology practices and current industry standards
  • Passion for developing future professionals and leaders in the beauty industry
  • Willingness to acquire general knowledge of curriculum with provided training
  • Ability to instruct and manage students in a lab-based learning environment
  • Strong organizational communication and interpersonal skills
  • Commitment to maintaining a safe sanitary and professional classroom salon

Job Specialty - CTE - Career & Technical Education - Cosmetology

Topics May Include:

  • Safety sanitation and infection control practices
  • Haircutting styling and chemical texturizing techniques
  • Hair color theory and applications
  • Skin care manicuring and related services
  • Salon business operations and professional ethics
  • Preparation for state licensure and industry certifications

Other Responsibilities:

  • Work with local salons stylists and industry professionals to provide guest speakers demonstrations and mentorship opportunities
  • Support students in developing employability and customer service skills through simulated salon experiences
  • Manage classroom and lab budgets
  • Maintain TDLR compliance
  • Potential CTSO sponsorship: SkillsUSA or local cosmetology competitions
    • travel may be necessary to supervise students competing at CTSO contests stipends may be available and may vary depending on sponsor responsibilities

Major Responsibilities and Duties

  • Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of the districts CTE curriculum and demonstrate written evidence of preparation as required.
  • Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in student learning styles and abilities.
  • Present subject matter according to guidelines established by the Texas Education Agency TDLR board policies and administrative regulations.
  • Plan and use appropriate instructional strategies materials and equipment for both classroom and lab instruction.
  • Conduct ongoing assessments of student progress and adjust instruction based on student needs.
  • Collaborate with special education staff to modify instruction for students with accommodations as outlined in IEPs.
  • Work with colleagues to determine instructional goals objectives and methods that align with district and industry standards.
  • Supervise student practice in lab settings and ensure compliance with all safety and sanitation procedures.
  • Maintain TDLR records safety logs and required instructional documentation.
  • Encourage student professionalism responsibility and teamwork.
  • Be a positive role model for students and support the mission of College Station ISD.
  • Create a classroom and lab environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical social and emotional development of students.
  • Manage student behavior in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
  • Take necessary precautions to protect students equipment materials and facilities.
  • Assist in selecting instructional materials tools and supplies for the cosmetology program.
  • Communicate regularly with parents students and colleagues regarding student progress and classroom activities.
  • Participate in staff development to enhance job-related skills and maintain TDLR instructional compliance.
  • Stay informed about current trends and best practices in the cosmetology and education fields.
  • Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor or other administrator that are consistent with the general requirement and qualification for the position.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Supervise assigned teacher aide(s).

The employee may spend long hours in intense concentration which requires attention to detail. There are several deadlines associated with this position which may cause significant stress. The employee must also deal with a wide variety of people on various issues.
