NOTE: This summer internship is for up to 13 weeks starting from the first day of the internship and ending no later than September 4 2026. Interns are expected to work 35 hours per week in person.
JOB DESCRIPTION
About the Team:
At the NYC Department of Buildings we are responsible for ensuring the safe and lawful use of buildings and properties by enforcing the NYC Construction Codes Energy Code and Zoning Resolution. We facilitate compliant development with integrity efficiency and professionalism. The team supports DOB NOW applications. This includes building new application components performing enhancements resolving application issues and maintaining accurate internal documentation for DOB NOW. The team works closely with inspection units business analysts and technical teams to build and enhance application and associated database components.
Position Responsibilities:
Under the direction and supervision of the Director DOB NOW: Inspections the intern will:
- Assist in the development testing and maintenance of applications using technologies such (C#) Java or Python.
- Write and modify SQL queries to support application functionality and reporting needs.
- Support database updates and help ensure data integrity and performance.
- Use development tools such as Visual Studio (or similar IDEs) for coding debugging and testing.
- Participate in code reviews and learn best practices for coding standards and documentation.
- Troubleshoot and resolve basic application defects under supervision.
- Collaborate with team members to understand business requirements and translate them into technical tasks.
- Document technical processes and application changes.
- Participate in team meetings and Agile development activities as applicable.

Qualifications :
As of June of the Program year the prospective intern must be a student matriculated in a college or be a recent college graduate (winter/spring term of the Program year).
NOTE: Appointment to this title is only valid for the duration of the Program June - August each year.
