About the Team
At the NYC Department of Buildings we are responsible for ensuring the safe and lawful use of buildings and properties by enforcing the NYC Construction Codes Energy Code and Zoning Resolution. The Cranes and Derricks (C&D) units mission is to ensure that crane and hoisting work in New York City is performed safely as per manufacturers recommendations and best industry practices while maintaining the requirements of the NYC Construction Codes.
Position Responsibilities
Under the direction and supervision of the Director Cranes and Derricks the intern will:
- Learn the code & engineering design requirements for suspended platforms
- Assist the plan examiners in the reviews of suspended scaffold filings
- Prepare lists of objections identified during the review of applications and discuss objections with plan examiners to finalize
- Review re-submissions of suspended scaffold jobs and discuss with plan examiner
- Update spreadsheets for the units performance reports

Qualifications :
As of June of the Program year the prospective intern must be a student matriculated in a college or be a recent college graduate (winter/spring term of the Program year).
NOTE: Appointment to this title is only valid for the duration of the Program June - August each year.
