Job Summary

SECONDMENT - 2026/2027 School Year

POSITION: Special Education Resource Teachers - Deaf and Hard of Hearing

FTE: 1.0

LOCATION: TBD (support is provided across the UCDSB)

NUMBER OF POSITIONS: 2

SUMMARY:

To work with schools to implement and support programmingand instructional practices to meet the needs of students who are deaf and hard of hearing in inclusionary classroom settings. To build school staff capacity in the delivery of direct services in auditory-verbal oral and sign-language.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Build staff capacity to deliver student specific approaches for students who are deaf and hard of hearing

Work directly in classrooms to build staff and student capacity to facilitate success for students who are Deaf and Hard of Hearing

Work as a member of the regional team to enable system implementation of board initiatives

Assessment of students to determine alternative programming

Provide in-service to teachers parents and peers of exceptional students regarding program modifications use of assistive technology teaching strategies and equipment needs

Work with the Superintendent and Principals of Teaching for Learning to facilitate system direction

Work with psychological services staff in order to support students

Participate as required in assisting school staff in IEP development and reports for IPRC meetings

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

Demonstrated knowledge and skill in the use of assistive technology with emphasis in/on technology for students who are Deaf and Hard of Hearing

Demonstrated knowledge and skill in working with students with a wide range of exceptionalities

Demonstrates a learning mindset

Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of the Ontario curriculum

Excellent organizational presentation and time management skills

Exemplary interpersonal and team building skills

Experience in integrating technology into teaching practice initiatives

Familiar with a wide range of assessment tools communication strategies and safety strategies and requirements

Knowledge of instructional strategies and formats to engage students and inform teaching practice (differentiated instruction universal design for learning assessment and evaluation)

Professional demonstration of Standards of Practice and Ethical Standards of Practice for the Teaching Profession

Understands professional development and its impact on student learning

Demonstrates knowledge of equitable and inclusive education practices and has an understanding of culturally relevant and responsive pedagogy

Effectively communicate and work with school staff community resources and Psychological Service

Familiarity with amplification equipment used in a school setting

Knowledge of cochlear implants and other hearing technologies

Knowledge of program development and teaching strategies for students who are deaf and hard of hearing

QUALIFICATIONS:

An Ontario Teachers Certificate of Qualification

Certificate in Deaf Education

Qualifications in Elementary and/or Secondary

Minimum of 3 years teaching experience in Deaf Education or equivalent experience

Member of the Ontario College of Teachers in good standing

Special Education qualifications would be an asset

Conditions:

Salary grid plus travel allowance

Term one school year 2026/2027 (at end of the term returns to home school)

Travel to various locations may be required
