Job Summary

This position is for the full academic year. THIS POSITION IS FOR UPPERCLASSMEN ONLY. FRESHMEN ARE NOT ELIGIBLE TO APPLY FOR DEPARTMENT POSITIONS.

Expected hours of work per week: 10

Work Location & Hours: Sanderson 103; Mon- Fri; 8am-4:30pm

Qualifications for Position:

  • Must be a student at Covenant College
  • Sophomore Junior or Senior standing
  • Minimum 2.75 GPA
  • Adequate knowledge of methods of research
  • Strong reading and writing skills
  • Able to work independently
  • Strong character and integrity
  • Biblical & Theological Studies major/minor preferred
  • Interest in theology biblical studies church history vocational ministry etc. preferred

Expected Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Student should expect to work about 10 hours/week
  • Grade objective portions of exams quizzes reading assignments etc.
  • Carry out basic research for professors writing projects-the student should plan to develop and/or improve research skills in consultation with the professor in this position
  • Edit writing materials by professors
  • Tutor other students
  • Proctor exams quizzes etc. as needed
  • Photocopy essays books handouts etc. as needed
  • Revise/update previous exams quizzes notes etc.
  • Audit faculty supervisors courses
  • Regularly report to faculty supervisor - Dr. Clifton Ward (Sanderson 103)

Resume skills development (NACE Competencies required by employers) to be developed

  • Critical Thinking in the form of aiding Dr. Ward to identify analyze and evaluate appropriate sources for furthering his ongoing research and writing
  • Communication in the form of (a) asking appropriate questions for the task of research and/or grading or (b) clearly articulating discipline standards if engaged in tutoring to help other students understand material
  • Leadership through helping Dr. Ward in his role as department chair with the planning and implementation of various BTS activities throughout the academic year
  • Professionalism by dependability in time-constrained tasks for both departmental initiatives and research deadlines
  • Teamwork including shared implementation of BTS initiatives throughout the academic year
  • Technology through the learning and implementation of new software for the purpose of research and/or writing
  • Career & Self-Development including the ability to learn more deeply the educational protocols for research and writing in theological and philosophical studies
