DescriptionThe Supervisor of Respiratory is responsible for overseeing and administration of oxygen therapeutic gas and respiratory medications to patients in accordance with physician orders and their license practice act within department guidelines and policies. Relies on extensive experience and judgment to accomplish responsibilities. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected. Leads and directs the work of others.
Responsibilities- Compliance/Quality
- Ensures all staff utilize all equipment supplies facilities and resources in a prudent and efficient manner in order to ensure efficient departmental operations and the provision of high-quality health care services.
- Assists in the development and implementation of continuous quality improvement programs and participates in multi-disciplinary continuous quality improvement efforts. Assists in ensuring that all services provided by the department are performed with compassion understanding and respect for others.
- Interfaces with laboratory and MIS/CIS to troubleshoot hospital computer system in an effort to ensure optimal system performance and compliance with established computer standards. Takes initiative to correct and prevent issues that arise.
- Ensures that blood gas systems are operational and that all staff are competent and performing testing in accordance with department policy.
- Patient Care Delivery
- Inserts trains and checks off staff on arterial line insertion and intubation while maintaining their own competency. Ensures that all staff understand the process of applying data to their patient and can relay this information to the physician.
- Ensures staff complete all tasks in their assigned area and have completed all required documentation.
- Ensures that all staff perform their job duties while upholding customer service excellence.
- Collaboration/Partnerships
- Facilitates the development of the staffs communication with other providers in relating cardiopulmonary status and their ability to handle in depth clinical situations. Including cardiac arrest intubation MET response and other issues.
- Professional Development
- Supports the implementation and development of departmental initiatives designed improve staff skill levels and ensures staff participation.
- Promotes the quality and efficiency of his/her own performance through participation in staff educational programs approved continuing education courses and specialized skill training programs.
- Leadership
- Analyzes departmental data prepares reports and monitors department records. Takes initiative to develop long term improvement strategies.
- Other Duties as Assigned
- Performs other duties as assigned or requested.
Qualifications- 2 years Respiratory Experience
- Associates Degree or equivalent (10 Years experience as licensed therapist substituted for Associates Degree)
- Graduate of AMA approved program
- Successful completion of national certification and/or registry exams administered by the NBRC. Current Louisiana State License issued by LSBME and BLS certification ACLS within 1 year of hire.
