Responsibilities
Camper Support & Intervention
- Support campers who exhibit challenging behaviors that may impact participation in typical camp activities.
- Provide on-site as-needed assistance by floating throughout camp and responding when behavior support is requested.
- Assist individual campers during field trips when additional guidance or safety support is needed.
Behavior Planning & Communication
- Work with staff and parents/guardians to develop behavior support plans that reflect age-appropriate expectations and strategies.
- Assist with parent communication throughout the day regarding behavioral incidents progress or concerns.
- Document support strategies and share observations with camp leadership as needed.
Staff Training & Modeling
- Model best practices for interacting with and supporting campers with diverse needs.
- Coach staff on proactive behavior techniques positive reinforcement and redirection strategies.
- Promote a positive and inclusive environment through relationship-building and supportive guidance.
YMCA Values & Safety
- Uphold the YMCAs core values of caring honesty respect responsibility and faith.
- Support camp-wide safety supervision and child protection standards.
- Follow all mandated reporting and abuse prevention policies.
Compliance & YMCA Standards
- Follow YMCA policies regarding youth protection and media permissions.
- Complete required training (New Staff Orientation Abuse Prevention Bloodborne Pathogens CPR/First Aid) within 30 days.
- Maintain confidentiality and professional communication always.
Other expectations
- Adhere to policies related to boundaries with consumers.
- Attend/complete required abuse risk management training
- Adhere to procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising consumers.
- Follow mandated reporting requirements.
- Adhere to job specific abuse risk management responsibilities.
Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Required to have at least 2 years of experience working with children who have diverse abilities behavioral needs or developmental differences.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate with staff and parents.
- Ability to document behavioral observations and communicate them professionally and accurately
- Ability to remain calm patient and solution-focused in challenging situations.
- Ability to work outdoors for extended periods and move throughout camp property.
- Completion of YMCA-required trainings including abuse prevention CPR/First Aid (if required) and staff orientation.
Preferred Qualifications
- Coursework in early childhood development special education psychology social work or a related field.
- Experience with behavior support plans social-emotional learning or conflict de-escalation.
- Not required but beneficial: Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) certification or a bachelors degree in a related field.
- Must complete New Staff Orientation Blood Bourne Pathogen Child Abuse Prevention and CPR/First Aid training within 30 days of employment.
