Job Summary

Subject to formal establishment a vacancy may arise for a Wing Commander (Any Profession) to serve as SO1 Strategic Reserves at RAF High Wycombe on Full Time Reserves Service (Limited Commitment) (TCoS) with an initial proposed start date of 31 August 2026 (or earlier/later subject to formal establishment and candidate status).

This is an exciting opportunity to join a newly forming team at the heart of RAF Strategic Reserve policy and delivery. As SO1 Strategic Reserves you will lead a dedicated team responsible for the management readiness and utility of the RAFs Strategic Reserve cohort. You will provide strategic direction across governance data mobilisation and stakeholder engagement shaping how the RAF postures its Strategic Reserves to meet Defences evolving demands.

Position Responsibilities

Lead RAF Strategic Reserve governance pan-RAF alignment inter-TLB liaison and represent the Strategic Reserve at senior boards and governance fora.

Direct the Single Version of the Truth (SVOT) construct for all Strategic Reserve data defining Management Information requirements for planning Transition to Conflict (TTC) Agile Combat Employment (ACE) Strategic Defence Review (SDR) and major exercises.

Lead Strategic Reserve mobilisation strategy aligning with Transition to Conflict Agile Combat Employment and Home Defence Plan requirements; represent the Strategic Reserve at key Air and Defence-level exercises including STEADFAST DEFENDER 2027.

Lead liaison with Professions Advisors Capability Owners Defence Front-Line Command and Reserve Forces & Cadets (RF&C) stakeholders informing the development of coherent policy plans and processes pertaining to the utility of RAF Strategic Reserves.

Lead strategic communications on Strategic Reserve policy SDR direction and re-enablement messaging.

Provide strategic leadership and direction for the team; drive workforce optimisation and structural efficiency across Strategic Reserve functions.

Ensure elements of the bi-annual data exchange between the MOD and His Majestys Revenue and Customs (HMRC) are completed in accordance with the RF&C Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) and all records returned to the RAF are reviewed and assured on JPA.
