We are looking for a Web Developer (at the rank of IT Officer) in the Centre for Information Technology in Education within the Faculty of Education.
Duties and Responsibilities
The appointee will work as a front-end developer to perform complex technical procedures requiring in-depth web development techniques and undertake the following key responsibilities under general supervision:
Implement HKUs assessment task designs per OECD-provided customizers for different assessment task types;
Build modular reusable front-end components for web-based assessment applications;
Handle data configuration/ exchange via JSON and XML for assessment task development;
Develop package and render QTI-aligned Portable Custom Interactions (PCIs) ensuring assessment platform compatibility;
Ensure compliance with WCAG 2.1 accessibility standards and responsive design for multi-device use;
Embed PCI-wrapped items into the assessment platform in line with relevant agreements and technical specifications;
Ensure complete accurate data capture in the correct format to support assessment project;
Refine front-end code for optimal performance and user experience (UX) ;
Manage and control own work deliverables without close supervision and adhere to established project timelines and quality standards;
Collaborate with HKUs cross-functional project team to drive project progress and meet key milestones;
Assist in the teams management and supervisory responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor;
Perform other duties as assigned.
Essential Requirements
At least Bachelors degree or above in Computer Science IT Web Development or a related discipline;
Advanced proficiency in JavaScript (ES6) HTML5 and CSS3;
At least 2 years proven relevant experience in building modular reusable web application front-end components;
Expertise in JSON/XML for web project data handling and configuration;
Solid knowledge and application of WCAG 2.1 accessibility standards and responsive design;
Proficiency in written and spoken English;
Advanced proficiency in PC and relevant software applications for front-end development data processing and project delivery;
Excellent communication collaboration problem-solving skills;
Self-motivated proactive and able to meet project timelines;
Hands-on experience with QTI standards and PCI development packaging and rendering would be an advantage but is not mandatory.

The appointment will commence as soon as possible on a 1-year temporary basis. A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered.
