As a candidate attorney the primary purpose is to learn and gain experience by attending meetings participating in case discussion analysing and summarizing documents. The role assists legal professionals of the law firm in performing their tasks efficiently all while gaining vital practical experience and learning as much as possible to eventually becoming a registered attorney. It operates on-site from our offices in Rosebank.
Key responsibilities:
- Legal research Conducting in-depth research into statutes case law and other legal authorities to support cases opinions or advice.
- Drafting legal documents Preparing a wide range of documents such as pleadings affidavits summonses briefs motions and court-related paperwork.
- Analyzing and reviewing legal documents Examining contracts court papers legislation and other materials for accuracy implications and compliance.
- Attending meetings and consultations Participating in client meetings (often alongside or under supervision) taking instructions recording details accurately and helping manage client expectations.
- Client interaction and support Gathering information from clients providing updates and assisting with consultations under supervision.
- Court-related tasks Preparing cases for the Labour Court High Court and Magistrates Court issuing/serving documents attending court proceedings with right of appearance CCMA matter where applicable and supporting litigation processes.
- Administrative and firm support Handling day-to-day tasks to help run the practice efficiently including filing correspondence and staying updated on legal developments.
- Completing compulsory coursework Undertaking structured practical legal training (PLT) modules.
