NATURAL RESOURCES MANAGER

Purpose of Classification:
The purpose of this classification is to develop and implement policies plans and programs to effectively acquire manage preserve and protect the natural resources within DeKalb Countys parks system.
Essential Functions:
The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar related or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.
Manages and evaluates assigned staff; develops and oversees employee work schedules to ensure adequate coverage and control; compiles and reviews timesheets; addresses employee concerns and problems and counsels or disciplines as appropriate; assists with or completes employee performance appraisals; manages work; acts as a liaison between employees and management; and trains staff in operations policies and procedures.
Organizes prioritizes and assigns work; prioritizes and schedules work activities to meet objectives; ensures subordinates have proper resources to complete assigned work; monitors status of work in progress and inspects completed work; consults with assigned staff to assist with complex/problem situations and provide technical expertise; provides progress and activity reports to management; and assists with revisions to procedure manuals as appropriate.
Establishes and implements standards policies and management plans to protect and enhance natural resources.
Implements pollution protection; estimates and implements pollution protection; and enhances natural resources.
Manages annual operating budgets for the Natural Resource Management Section; assists with preparation of budget; identifies and tracks costs to preserve and maintain natural resources using an activity-based costing system; and prepares and administers grants to support Natural Resource Management Section.
Establishes and cultivates partnerships; and establishes and cultivates partnerships with other departments jurisdictions nonprofit and citizen groups to promote stewardship of natural resources.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelors Degree in Resource Management Horticulture Landscape Architecture or related field required; five years of experience in resource management landscape design horticulture or related field to include lead or supervisory experience; or any equivalent combination of education training and experience which provides the requisite knowledge skills and abilities for this job.
Specific License or Certification Required: Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia drivers license.
