Role description:

We are looking for an experienced heat network specialist to join our growing team in the UK and work with leading specialists throughout Europe.

Arcadis has worked on some of the worlds leading heat network projects and energy masterplanning/transformation schemes including supporting the Governments heat network advanced zoning programme and helping a number of Airports Hospitals and wider public/private sector clients with heat network feasibility development and project management activities.

Arcadis is helping a range of high-profile clients stay ahead and prepare for Ofgems Heat Network Regulations and the introduction of the Heat Network Technical Assurance Scheme (HNTAS).

Role accountabilities:

Technical Delivery

  • Lead projects and provide technical input on multi discipline projects led by others specifically in relation to heat networks but also involving wider urban energy transition technical activities.
  • Lead Heat Networks feasibility assessments and energy master planning studies; including heat and electricity consumption mapping interrogating public data sets stakeholder engagement reviewing on site plant technical requirements energy and hydraulic modelling energy demand and supply assessments and techno-economic analysis.
  • Use relevant industry software to undertake hydraulic modelling energy modelling pipe sizing and GIS for energy mapping.
  • Undertake assessments of heat supply sources such as air ground water and sewer heat pumps mine water geothermal heat waste heat and hydrogen
  • Undertake sizing of heat generation plant thermal storage and distribution pipework.
  • Technical design of Heat Networks and energy centres (up to RIBA Stage 2 / Detailed Project Development).
  • Undertake techno-economic assessments of heat networks and develop business cases
  • Undertake technical Heat Networks design as per the requirement of Heat networks: Code of Practice for the UK (CP1)/Heat Network Technical Standard (TS1) and the Heat Network Technical Assurance Scheme.
  • Execute funding applications on behalf of clients for the Heat Network Efficiency Scheme Heat Network Delivery Unit/Heat Network Support Unit in Scotland and Green Heat Network Fund/Scotlands Heat Network Fund
  • Understanding of Heat Network Zoning the parties involved and the zoning process
  • Provide advice on the commercial delivery and funding of heat network project including ESCo commercial structures.
  • Undertake Heat Network Project Management activities for the delivery of heat network projects

Business Development

  • Work alongside the Heat Networks UK Lead and Energy Transition Senior Leadership to support development of Heat Network and wider energy transition advisory services. You will be required to:
  • Provide strategic guidance for growth Heat Networks and energy transition technical and commercial services.
  • Build on existing client relationships (internal and external clients) to help develop shape and influence client thinking and exceed client expectations.
  • Develop technical solutions and support pursuits/tenders to develop winning bids.
  • Undertake thought leadership / awareness raising activities to promote Arcadis visibility to the market.

Line Management/ Team Development

  • Line management responsibility may be likely from an early point in joining the team.
  • As a member of the Sustainability Advisory Team you will be expected to upskill junior team members (Graduates) to develop their capabilities for Heat Networks advisory skills.

Qualifications & Experience:

Essential:

  • Experience of leading on the develop mean of heat network schemes and HNDU/AZP/PSDS funded projects.
  • Strong engineering/technical background with work experience in the energy sector
  • Data and statistical analysis expertise
  • Experience of Heat Network energy centre and network operation relating to performance and energy assessments
  • Experience of models and tools used in the industry particularly; energy and techno-economic modelling and hydraulic modelling
  • Project management experience.
  • Knowledge of heat network grant funding schemes across the UK.
  • Knowledge and understanding of heat network regulatory landscape in the UK.
  • Understanding of energy masterplanning process and energy statements for planning.
  • High-proficiency written communication and verbal presentation skills.
  • Experience working independently and proactively to deliver work of an exceptional standard.
  • Experience of interacting with clients and involvement with business development including the development of business cases define scopes plan and delivery of energy projects.

Valuable:

  • Experience in procurement and commercial activities especially developing tender specifications/technical requirements and procuring contractors.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the energy market electricity networks distributed/urban energy systems and renewable energy technologies.
  • Chartership or Working towards Chartership.
  • Experience in line management
