Summary:
The Teacher fulfills the mission of the Catholic school by guiding inspiring and educating students in a loving Christ-centered environment. The Teacher is to be immediately responsible to the principal for the carrying out of policies of the school and the Archdiocese of San Antonio as they relate to the function of the school the classroom and the immediate contact with students and parents.
Holy Spirit Catholic School is seeking an English Language Arts teacher to join our Middle School team. The ideal candidate is a strong reader and writer who understands adolescent development and creates a supportive structured classroom environment that promotes academic growth and character development. The Middle School ELA teacher is responsible for delivering engaging standards-based instruction in reading writing speaking listening and language to students in grades 68. The teacher fosters a love of literature and writing while developing students critical thinking analytical skills and effective communication.
Primary Responsibilities:
Instruction & Curriculum
- Plan and deliver rigorous TEKS-aligned lessons in reading comprehension literary analysis writing grammar vocabulary and research skills.
- Teach a variety of diverse literary and informational texts including novels short stories poetry drama nonfiction and multimedia sources.
- Develop students writing across genres (narrative argumentative expository and research-based writing).
- Integrate grammar and composition instruction within authentic reading and writing tasks.
- Use formative and summative assessments to guide instruction and provide timely feedback.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse academic linguistic and developmental needs of middle school learners.
- Establish and maintain a structured respectful classroom culture conducive to learning.
- Integrate educational technology to enhance instruction and student engagement.
Professional Responsibilities
- Collaborate with colleagues to ensure vertical alignment and interdisciplinary connections.
- Participate in faculty meetings professional development and school-wide initiatives.
- Maintain accurate records of attendance grades and lesson plans.
- Uphold school policies and contribute positively to the school community.
- Willingness to attend ongoing professional development and specialized training.
- Maintains confidentiality regarding school matters.
Position Responsibilities:
- Supports and upholds the philosophy of Catholic education and the mission of the school
- Acts as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church
- Supports and adheres to the policies and procedures of the school and Archdiocese of San Antonio including the Religious Standards for Catholic School Employees
- Maintains confidentiality regarding school matters
- Adheres to safety training and protocols on a daily basis and takes precautionary measures to ensure the safety and well-being of self others.
- Responsible for protecting the confidentiality of any information or material obtained in the service with the organization to include but not limited to client names and information services rendered to clients donors names and gifts internal and external investigations or results of any investigations and financial information.
- Adherence to the Code of Conduct and the Faith and Moral Policy is mandatory.
- Every employee is required to take a solution-oriented approach in their interactions and undertakings as well as being a team member that promotes collaboration and commitment to the Mission and Vision of the organization.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
Education
- Bachelors degree in English Education or a related field (Masters degree preferred).
- Valid state teaching certification for grades 68 ELA.
- Strong knowledge of grammar composition and literary analysis.
- Effective classroom management and organizational skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
