Job Summary

Job Title: Spanish Teacher
Start Date: ASAP / Easter (flexible for the right candidate)
Salary Range: Competitive dependent on experience
Location: Bournemouth Dorset

Working Pattern:
Full-Time / Permanent

Reporting To:
Head of Modern Foreign Languages / Senior Leadership Team

Key Responsibility:
Deliver high-quality Spanish lessons that inspire students and develop strong language skills across speaking listening reading and writing.


Role Purpose

The Spanish Teacher will be responsible for delivering engaging and effective language lessons that promote confidence in communication and a deeper understanding of Hispanic culture.

The role involves supporting students academic progress preparing them for GCSE examinations and contributing to a dynamic Modern Foreign Languages department that encourages curiosity creativity and global awareness.

The post holder will contribute positively to the ethos aims and wider work of the school.


Spanish Teacher Key Responsibilities

Teaching and Learning:

  • Plan and deliver high-quality Spanish lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4 (KS5 desirable).

  • Develop students skills in speaking listening reading and writing in Spanish.

  • Prepare students effectively for GCSE examinations and coursework requirements.

  • Use a variety of teaching strategies to engage learners of all abilities.

  • Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment that supports learning and participation.

Curriculum and Assessment:

  • Contribute to the planning and development of the Spanish curriculum within the Modern Foreign Languages department.

  • Assess and monitor student progress using both formative and summative assessment methods.

  • Use assessment data to inform teaching strategies and support student progress.

  • Set and monitor academic targets for students.

  • Provide constructive feedback to students to support improvement.

Student Support:

  • Differentiate teaching to support SEND EAL and high-achieving students.

  • Promote high standards of behaviour and engagement in line with school policies.

  • Encourage students confidence in language learning and cultural understanding.

  • Communicate effectively with parents and carers regarding student progress and achievement.

Department and School Contribution:

  • Work collaboratively with colleagues within the Modern Foreign Languages department.

  • Attend departmental meetings staff briefings and training sessions.

  • Contribute to school enrichment opportunities such as language clubs cultural events or educational trips.

  • Support whole-school initiatives aimed at improving literacy and communication skills.


Additional Responsibilities

  • Attend staff training days (INSET) and professional development opportunities.

  • Support school events such as open evenings and transition activities where required.

  • Contribute to extracurricular activities related to languages and culture.

  • Carry out additional duties as directed by the Headteacher or Senior Leadership Team.

Person Specification

Experience:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent teaching qualification.

  • Experience teaching Spanish in a secondary school setting.

  • Experience preparing students for GCSE Spanish examinations (KS5 experience desirable).

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong subject knowledge of the Spanish language and Hispanic culture.

  • Excellent classroom management and behaviour strategies.

  • Strong communication and organisational skills.

  • Ability to motivate and inspire students.

  • Ability to analyse assessment data and support student progress.

  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
