Job Summary

JOB TITLE - Director of Nutrition Services

CLASSIFICATION -Administrator

FLSA STATUS - Exempt

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR - Director of Business Services

RECEIVES GUIDANCE FROM - Superintendents Cabinet

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION - Ensure food of high nutritious quality is made available to each student in the district in an atmosphere of cleanliness cheerfulness and personal caring.

Skills Knowledge and Abilities

  1. Ability to provide leadership and supervise food service in accordance with district policy and state and federal mandates.
  2. Knowledge of security and emergency procedures.
  3. Knowledge of facility management and planning.
  4. Knowledge of budgeting procedures and management.
  5. Knowledge of and skill in effective supervision and evaluation.
  6. Ability to communicate both orally and in writing.
  7. Ability to relate effectively with staff students parents and the community.
  8. Knowledge of district operations.
  9. Ability to organize varied tasks and meet deadlines in a timely manner.
  10. Ability to handle diversity in an objective manner.
  11. Ability to interpret federal state and local codes and maintain compliance.
  12. Knowledge of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards for General Industry.
  13. Ability to use computer software.

Education

  1. Bachelors Degree in Food Services related field.

Certification/Licensure

  1. Valid Iowa drivers license.
  2. Serv Safe certification preferred

Experience

  1. Three years of experience in food service management with meal planning experience.

Equipment

  1. Office equipment such as cell phone multi-line phone system fax machines copiers and computers.
  2. Kitchen equipment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES -

The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

  1. Plan and check all menus for school meals and special events.
  2. Determine size of serving to meet the necessary requirements with regards to the ages served.
  3. Determine the quantities of each food to be prepared daily.
  4. Visit all cafeterias checking that high standards of health and safety are maintained and determining possible improvements in operation.
  5. Supervise the overall safety and sanitation program in the school food service stations.
  6. Report all accidents occurring in the kitchen to appropriate school personnel and agencies.
  7. Assume responsibility for the security of revenue from cafeteria services until it has been turned over to the proper authorities.
  8. Plan and supervise the production of any special meals.
  9. Bill organizations for special events catered.
  10. Prepare purchase orders for food equipment and other supplies purchased.
  11. Responsible for taking inventory and ordering government commodities.
  12. Attends administrative meetings and informs administrators of any upcoming events.
  13. Inform the public through local press of planned lunch menus on a monthly basis.
  14. Maintain appropriate files for state agencies.
  15. Effectively purchases food to take full advantage of rebate or refund offers.
  16. Set meals prices as needed.
  17. Prepare specifications and bid conditions for all items requiring such bids by law and/or by choice.
  18. Write new and continuously update old job descriptions.
  19. Standardize personnel policies levels of cleanliness health and safety.
  20. Administer personnel policies and evaluates all food service employees.
  21. Review and approve all food service personnel timesheets for payroll.
  22. Coordinates all aspects of the hiring process for all food service employees.
  23. Prepare and administer yearly departmental budget.
  24. Review and evaluate all requests and recommendations for purchase of new and replacement equipment.
  25. Consult as needed with school planners and architects on plans and specifications for new or renovated food preparation and serving centers.
  26. Interprets federal and state standards guidelines regarding school food service and the school food program for the administration staff students and the public as appropriate
  27. Maintain a reliable attendance record.
  28. Maintain confidentiality.
  29. Other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISION OF OTHERS -

  1. All Nutrition Services and Food Transportation Employees.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS -

  1. Ability to work while standing moving and/or walking.

  2. Repetitious bending lifting stooping kneeling hand movement and lifting up to 50 lbs.

  3. Drug tobacco and alcohol free while working.

  4. Must be able to see and hear within normal limits with or without corrective lenses or hearing aids.

  5. Ability to operate a motor vehicle used to travel between sites.

WORKING CONDITIONS -

  1. Majority of work is performed in a kitchen or school setting.
  2. Occasional meetings outside the school day.
  3. Occasional exposure to body fluids fumes noise and hazardous materials and emergency situations.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT -

  1. At-will employee.

  2. 12 Month position salary and work year to be established by the Board.

  3. Per Board Policies and administrative guidelines.

  4. Performance evaluated annually.
