Job Purpose Transportation Ones Controller is a key member of the accounting and finance team and is tasked with ensuring the wellness and integrity of the companys financial operations. The Controller will supervise the accounting team prepare reports for executive review and develop standards and processes for proper financial management. Duties and Responsibilities- Supervise mentor and guide accounting team employees and provide department leadership in relation to talent acquisition performance management conflict resolution training and development and succession planning.
- Design and implement accounting standards and policies to help drive departmental objectives and success. Apply GAAP guidelines.
- Review account reconciliations lead accounting special projects to improve operations and communicate with internal customers and external auditors.
- Support Payroll and Commissions process.
- Recommend financial performance benchmarks.
- Manage the month-end and year-end close processes from inception to conclusion. Appropriately leverage resources to ensure timely completion of closing process.
- Manage several accounting processes including but not limited to maintaining balance sheet account reconciliations approving proper GL coding for invoice entry recording and maintaining Fixed Asset records and approval of proper GL coding for invoices.
- Work with Accounting firm for year-end closing.
- Create and reconcile Profit and Loss statement to ensure proper account coding and accruals.
- Manage the Transportation Management System to ERP integration which serves as the companys accounting system. Implement other financial technology solutions as needed.
- Lead implementation of accounting software upgrades integration and process mapping.
- Drive continuous improvement projects value creation and departmental growth.
- Lead cross functional teams in implementing accounting or finance related projects and initiatives.
- Prepare and present financial reports including budget information for executive team review and discussion.
- Create and manage accounting KPI development deployment and adherence.
- Identify financial and compliance risks and work with leaders to mitigate related exposures.
- Exemplify company values and actively work with leadership to champion organizational wide improvement best practices.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Qualifications- Bachelors degree in Accounting or Finance.
- Exhibited success working strategically and tactically in a middle market business.
- 2 years of leading a small accounting department including Accounting AP AR functions.
- 5-7 years experience in corporate or public accounting logistics exposure preferred.
- Ability and desire to work in a fast paced collaborative and open-concept work area.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets skills (pivots v/hlookups sumifs if statements etc.).
- Demonstrate high levels of motivation with a strong desire to grow self and others.
- Strong English written and oral communication skills.
- Communicates effectively with various team members and the executive management team.
- Mid-level Microsoft Office or Google Suite competency.
Working ConditionsGeneral office environment. Work is generally sedentary in nature but may require standing and walking for up to 10% of the time. The working environment is generally favorable. Lighting and temperature are adequate and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise dust etc. Work is generally performed within an office environment with standard equipment available.
