Job Description

The natural resource restoration technician assists staff with the maintenance and improvement of outdoor natural areas.

The work schedule will generally be Monday through Friday and occasional Saturday and/or evening shift. 40 hours per week for six months. We are anticipating start date to be May 4 2026.

This seasonal position is eligible for a $1.00 / $1.50 per hour bonus program. Bonus amounts are based on the number of hours worked and other criteria while in the seasonal role. Full bonus eligibility details will be provided to all finalists.

Duties/Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions:

  • Control invasive species and maintain natural plant habitat areas with city staff independently and with volunteers
  • Assist with identification of native and invasive plants their protection and control
  • Conduct proper control and maintenance techniques such as
    1. cutting with stump treatment
    2. pulling and/or dead heading
    3. mowing with weed-whacker or brush blade
    4. herbicide spraying
    5. pruning
    6. planting and transplanting
    7. plant caging
    8. mulching and watering
    9. seed collection and dispersal
  • Maintain tools supplies and condition of city truck
  • Assist with workshops volunteer training and leading volunteers
Other Job Functions:
  • Assist with administrative tasks including field mapping and GIS records
  • Perform other duties and assume other responsibilities as apparent or assigned

Qualifications

Minimum Job Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age possess a valid drivers license and provide own reliable work-related transportation
  • Ability to identify common native plants and weed species in various stages of growth
  • Have related field work experience
  • Ability to work outdoors in diverse weather conditions
  • Ability to bend and stoop repeatedly while working
  • Possess strong written and verbal communication skills
Desired Job Qualifications:
  • Education in natural resources or forestry with completed courses in plant identification
  • Field experience in native habitat restoration including invasive species control
  • Experience leading volunteer projects
  • Experience spot-spraying non-restricted herbicides
  • Certified pesticide applicator
  • Experience with ArcMap or GIS computer programs
  • Ability to work for six months approximately May 2026 through October 2026
