In this role you will partner with key stakeholders to create innovative people solutions and use data to proactively spot and address trends. Youll align employee relations and policy work with wider initiatives in wellbeing engagement and leadership development to help make Historic Environment Scotland (HES) an inclusive safe and engaging place to work. You will also ensure employee relations matters are handled quickly effectively and compassionately in full alignment with policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities of this role

  • Responsible for ensuring the delivery of excellent Human Resources (HR) operational service to employees and line managers including senior leaders.

  • Adopt a coaching approach when providing advice on Employee Relations (ER) matters including assessing different options whilst presenting the benefits and challenges of each.

  • Ensure all ER cases across HES are managed according to Service Level Agreements (SLAs)

  • Responsible for implementing appropriate SLAs for the team

  • Ensure consistent risk-based advice and guidance is given to line managers to enable them to manage their people in a fair and transparent way reviewing the data with the People Partner and the Head of People Services to ensure the right interventions and upskilling across core populations.

  • Provide skilled risk-based and environmentally aware advice in more complex ER cases and act as the escalation point for the HR team. Will act as the main contact for more complicated and senior employee cases.

  • Lead on People Policy reviews ensuring key stakeholders and colleagues are included and engaged throughout the process including consultation with the Trade Unions.

  • Ensure regular reviews take place on all People Policies to ensure legislation requirements are met including engaging with HES legal team for advice and support.

  • Lead on ensuring advice guidance and policy development is inclusive accessible and that a key focus is on equality for colleagues.

  • Work closely with the People and Wellbeing & Engagement Partners to analyse quarterly Management Information (MI) and assist in implementation of People and Wellbeing related recommendations across all Directorates including supporting both in Culture Reviews where required.

Essential:

  • Demonstrable experience of the working within the principles and practices of employee relations.

  • An in-depth knowledge and application of UK employment law and regulations with experience of making risk-based decisions

  • Experience of policy development and maintenance where the employee experience is at the heart of decision making

  • Experience of working with Trade Unions including consultation and negotiation

  • Experience of leading a team and managing workload to meet demands from stakeholders and strategic people projects.

  • Proven line management experience with demonstrable experience of managing workload to meet demands from stakeholders and strategic people projects.

  • Evidence of having difficult conversations is essential ideally in complex circumstances

  • Experience with working in complex organisations with multi-disciplines ideally with experience in the public sector

  • Demonstrable experience of managing a complex workload to deliver outcomes accordingly.

  • SCQF level 9 or equivalent qualifications/experience e.g. a degree in a HR or business management related discipline is essential

  • CIPD membership
