Radio-Canada News & Current Affairs is currently seeking a Director Journalistic Policies whose primary role is to ensure compliance with CBC/Radio-Canadas Journalistic Standards and Practices for all news content published and broadcast across multiple platforms.
As Director you will be responsible for the development promotion and consistent application of CBC/Radio-Canadas Journalistic Standards and Practices (JSP). More specifically you will respond to complaints from the public addressed to either News & Current Affairs or the Radio-Canada Ombudsman. You will provide support and advice to the General Manager News & Current Affairs on the interpretation of the JSP and the drafting of internal editorial policies. You will also provide expert guidance to journalistic staff as well as to programmers in other Radio-Canada departments as needed and consult regularly with your counterparts at CBC.
To excel in this role you must possess a deep understanding of journalistic ethics professional practices and the unique requirements of Radio-Canadas radio television and digital platforms. You must also be thoroughly familiar with the journalistic workflows involved in content production.
What You Bring
Qualifications:
University degree in journalism or a relevant field.
Minimum 10 years journalism experience.
Leadership experience an asset.
Skills:
Superior editorial judgment and thorough understanding of CBC/Radio-Canadas Journalistic Standards and Practices (see our website).
Superior knowledge of journalistic processes and newsgathering methods as well as the production of stories programs and content for TV radio and digital platforms.
Excellent command of French and superior writing skills.
Extensive current-events knowledge and strong analytical skills.
Deep understanding of the media and communications industries.
Highly developed interpersonal and conflict-resolution skills.
Strong ability to communicate diplomatically and effectively.
Ability to work well under pressure and handle multiple changing priorities.
Strong self-starter attitude.
Good knowledge of spoken and written English.
