Radio-Canada Acadie is looking for an experienced Provincial Affairs Reporter for a permanent position based in Fredericton New Brunswick.
The Provincial Affairs Reporter is responsible for assignments for digital radio and television. This person plays a central role in highlighting the decisions and political issues of the New Brunswick government and their impact on the population. Endowed with great curiosity the chosen person must have an overview of the Legislative Assembly and its functioning the politicians and their political parties public services Crown corporations all levels of governments as well as obviously the citizens.
The incumbent reports to the Moncton newsroom and has access to editorial guidance but must demonstrate initiative and autonomy possess a sharp news sense and solid judgment.
The Provincial Affairs Reporter must comply with CBC/Radio-Canadas journalistic and programming policies standards and practices.
Main tasks:
Establish and maintain a network that includes contacts at the provincial level as well as a range of recognized experts capable of providing explanations on issues or events that may arise.
Build trusting relationships with parliamentarians civil servants and everyone involved in government to uncover exclusive news and interviews.
Keep abreast of press events of parliamentarians and political parties and plan them with the assignment desk.
Keep their knowledge up-to-date concerning provincial politics its history and its main actors.
Research and gather information on political or governmental issues and events; follow the evolution of important issues over long periods.
Use their expertise to cover important news or events on the provincial scene.
Systematically cross-reference the information gathered with different sources to verify the clarity and accuracy of their content.
Regularly present multiplatform reports to describe events and issues; popularize and explain the context in depth on all platforms to help listeners better understand.
Organize and conduct interviews.
Collaborate closely with the newsroom to plan coverage of upcoming events for all platforms.
Conceive and produce in close collaboration with production staff informative and original content for all platforms to support the explanations presented in the report.
Show leadership and provide advice to colleagues; lead by example.
You will also be required to cover certain local Fredericton issues as needed.
Perform any function or task of a reporter/writer upon request.
The successful candidate will become a member of the legislative press gallery.
Please note
The work schedule will include rotating weekend shifts.
An excellent understanding of English both written and spoken is required.
You must be proficient in spoken and written French (production in French).
We are looking for a candidate with the following profile:
University degree or equivalent.
Five years of direct related experience demonstrating proven ability in the field.
Comfortable with live presenting.
Excellent reporting and interviewing skills across all platforms.
Bilingualism (French-English) is necessary.
Ability to work with various teams but also demonstrate great autonomy.
Demonstrate a critical mind.
Proven ability to work under high stress in a tight-deadline environment.
Experience working on multiple files at once.
Asset: knowledge of Radio-Canada production tools: Dalet Scoop iNews Media Central Hindenburg.
Asset: knowledge of New Brunswick politics.
Asset: studies in political science.
Understanding of the role and responsibilities of the public broadcaster.
Knowledge of CBC/Radio-Canada journalistic standards and practices.
Possess a valid drivers license and a driving record that meets the minimum requirements of CBC/Radio-Canadas insurance company.
