Job Summary

RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential Functions

  • Lead departmental planning to align with the Centers divisional and organizational objectives.
  • Strategize and implement diverse events focusing on participant needs and expectations.
  • Assist the Marketing and Sales divisions in advertising and selling events at the Space and Rocket Center
  • Strategize with the Food and Beverage Director to ensure pricing and menu options are relevant and competitive
  • Collaborate with the Food and beverage Director to ensure event sponsors and guests have a memorable event
  • Collaborate with various departments for seamless internal event execution.
  • Ensure targets are met by overseeing event production schedules.
  • Track and analyze trends to enhance future event planning and processes.
  • Review and approve floor plans and specifications created by Managers.
  • Serves as the main point of contact for VIP Guests visiting the center
  • Responsible for planning for appropriate hospitality for VIP Guests and with working across the Center to ensure that guests are delighted and the Rocket Centers objectives for the visit are met.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders to ensure their continued support of the centers mission and initiatives.

Supervisory Responsibilities: Yes

  • Adheres to organizational policies and applicable laws.
  • Instructs coaches and encourages staff to support by action and example the mission and vision of the Center.
  • Demonstrates good judgment within the supervision of staff.
  • Effectively monitors staff performance and offers appropriate coaching counseling or supervision as required.
  • Completes staff evaluations documentation etc. on time and effectively.
  • Serves as an effective role model to staff by demonstrating exemplary work ethic.

Travel Required: on occasion

QUALIFICATIONS

Required Education

  • Bachelors degree in hospitality meeting and event planning or a related field.

Required Experience

  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Proven supervisory experience with effective time project and detail management.
  • Ability to relate effectively with institutional personnel and the public.
  • Minimum of 5 years of related experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience leading a small team.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Demonstrated project management experience and capability (PMP certification or similar) a plus.
  • Prefer familiarity with project management tools like: MS Project; Wrike; Confluence; Smartsheet; MS Office; eSpace; Caterease; Asana; Trello.
  • Prefer familiarity with event planning and management tools like Cvent.

Physical Requirements

  • Sitting for long periods of time (4-6hrs) behind desk.
  • Walking climbing (stairs) to access other departments.
  • Feeling Wrist Movements Seeing reading to operate computer terminal office equipment and handle various documents.
  • Talking and Hearing to assist customers and employees in person and over the telephone.

Eligibility Qualifications

  • Must be authorized to work in the United States.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Environmental Factors

  • This position involves working in a climate-controlled office environment. This position deals extensively with the public and with employees who interact with assigned areas of responsibility. This position will involve some late-night closing.
