  • Base salary range: Level B: $118150 - $139812 / Level C: $144143 $165809 p.a. (pro-rata) plus 17% superannuation.

About the area

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at UWA is one of three Departments in the School of Physics Mathematics and Computing. The Department is well regarded for high quality teaching and addition to a broad-based undergraduate program in Pure Mathematics Applied Mathematics and Statistics the Department contributes to the teaching of Applied Statistics for the Data Science Major and the Master of Data Science in cooperation with the Department of Computer Science and Software Engineering.

The Department has strengths in Algebra Analysis Complex Systems Industrial Modelling and Applied Statistics with active collaboration across industry and national research initiatives.

About the opportunity

  • Conduct high-quality high-impact research in Applied Mathematics with a focus on mathematical and computational modelling and modern mathematical applications.
  • Deliver engaging undergraduate and postgraduate teaching across core mathematics areas from first-year calculus and linear algebra to advanced continuum mechanics and modelling.
  • Contribute to academic leadership industry and community engagement and service within the Department School and University.

About you

  • A PhD in Mathematics or other higher professional qualifications appropriate to their discipline.
  • Demonstrated expertise in the discipline of Mathematics.
  • Demonstrated ability to relate well to staff and students at all levels and evidence of a commitment to equity and diversity principles.

Level B:

  • A track record in course development engaging active learning techniques and successful student evaluation (relative to opportunity).
  • Demonstrated research expertise in an area of Applied Mathematics consonant to existing activities of the Department.
  • A track record of publication in peer-reviewed international journals and grant writing success (relative to opportunity).

Level C

  • An emerging record of excellence in course development engaging active learning techniques and successful student evaluation (relative to opportunity).
  • Research expertise in an area of Applied Mathematics consonant to existing activities of the Department.
  • A strong track record of publication in peer-reviewed international journals and grant writing success (relative to opportunity).
