About this Position

Job Title: VMware Administrator

Responsibilities:

  • Manage VMware Infrastructure/vSphere & Hyper-V clusters on Production and Test/Development environments.

  • Build test and maintain new VMs.

  • Familiarity with VMware Horizon and able to assist when needed.

  • Work with system owners and fine tune VM configurations to get the best performance/resource utilization.

  • Detection of VMware issues monitoring and ownership of standards and requirements.

  • Participate in capacity planning for the infrastructure.

  • Provide tools and procedures for resources provisioning.

  • Document processes and procedures.

  • Propose VM provisioning solutions to be analyzed and/or implemented.

  • Evaluate and apply version updates to ESX hosts and vulnerability patches as needed.

  • Develop and implement test plans to verify installation upgrades or repairs including back-out plans.

  • Outstanding communication skills.

  • Excellent troubleshooting skills.

  • Ability to provide after-hours support occasionally as needed.

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.

  • Ability to work both independently and as a member of a team.

  • Initiative to research and resolve problems.

Minimum Skillset:

  • 5 years experience with VMware & Hyper-V systems administration and support.

  • Working experience with vSphere systems administration and support including storage migrations vMotion and P2V migrations.

  • Basic understanding of Unix/Linux.

Requirements/Tasks:

  • Strong focus on vSphere capacity planning and performance tools.

  • Provide expertise and administration in the area of VMware/vSphere & Hyper-V.

  • This includes guidance in best practices research into options and potential solutions and professional presentation as requested.

  • Effective oral and written communication with staff.

  • Create documentation and supporting procedures for all key related systems and processes directly impact VMware/vSphere and Hyper-V.

  • Transfer key knowledge and educate staff in applicable areas for all Linux and VMware environments and administration.

  • Historically six (6) minor system improvements were performed each year.

  • An amendment to the PAQ will be issued for each project after the project scope is identified and pricing is established for the completion of the improvement.
