Position Overview

The GEODS program is seeking a highly skilled Senior System Administrator to support mission-critical projects that directly impact national security and intelligence operations.
The Geospatial Enterprise Open Data Store (GEODS) contract delivers integration design development and sustainment of data services supporting Federal Government operations.
The Senior System Administrator plays a key role in overseeing system testing supporting deployment activities collaborating with development teams and contributing to backlog refinement and roadmap planning.

Key Responsibilities

Access Management & Security
Fulfill AWS S3 bucket access requests ensuring proper authorization and compliance with security policies.
Create and manage IAM roles and policies following least-privilege principles.
Create rotate and manage IAM user access keys in accordance with the 90-day key rotation policy.
Maintain strict access control to ensure secure cloud infrastructure operations.
Monitoring & Troubleshooting
Monitor system and application performance using tools such as:
AWS CloudWatch
Kibana / Elasticsearch
Tableau
Analyze logs and troubleshoot issues on AWS EC2 Linux instances.
Diagnose and resolve network DNS and storage issues.
Recommend cost optimization strategies and scalability improvements.
Operational Support & Collaboration
Respond to and resolve support tickets in accordance with SLAs.
Support deployment activities alongside DevOps and development teams.
Configure SNS topics and S3 bucket notifications based on operational needs.
Collaborate with security engineering and operations teams to support AWS infrastructure.
Develop and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and technical documentation.
Independence & Reliability
Execute tasks independently with minimal supervision.
Proactively identify and implement platform improvements.
Demonstrate reliability accountability and commitment to team success.

Demonstrated experience with:

AWS (S3 EC2 IAM SNS CloudWatch)
Linux administration
Kibana / Elasticsearch
Tableau
DNS and networking fundamentals
ServiceNow
Jira
Confluence

Education and Experience

One of the following combinations:

Bachelors degree 5 years of relevant experience
Associates degree 7 years of relevant experience or minimum 8 years of relevant professional experience
Required Skills and Competencies
Strong AWS administration experience
Experience managing IAM roles policies and access keys
Linux system administration expertise
Experience troubleshooting cloud infrastructure and applications
Knowledge of networking DNS and storage systems
Experience with incident management and ticketing systems
Strong documentation and process improvement skills
Ability to work independently in a mission-critical environment
Strong communication and collaboration skills

Work Environment

On-site availability required Monday through Friday
Fast-paced mission-critical operational environment
Collaboration across security DevOps engineering and operations teams
