Position Summary
Hospice of South Texas (HOST) is seeking a dependable and service-oriented DME Technician/Driver to support the delivery setup cleaning and maintenance of durable medical equipment for hospice patients. This position plays a critical role in ensuring patients receive safe timely and functional equipment in both home and facility settings.
The ideal candidate demonstrates reliability mechanical aptitude strong customer service skills and the ability to work independently while maintaining compliance with hospice regulations.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Deliver set up and retrieve durable medical equipment in patient homes and nursing facilities.
- Communicate effectively with patients families and HOST clinical staff regarding equipment needs.
- Clean disinfect inspect and maintain medical equipment according to agency standards.
- Perform minor repairs and preventative maintenance on equipment.
- Maintain accurate documentation of deliveries and pickups.
- Ensure compliance with all state and federal hospice regulations.
- Promote HOSTs mission of Love Comfort Support through professional interactions.
- Participate in on-call rotation as scheduled.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Schedule
- Monday Friday 8:00 a.m. 5:00 p.m.
- Required on-call rotation after 5:00 p.m. and on weekends.
Qualifications
- Education: High School Diploma or GED required.
- Licensure: Valid Texas Drivers License required.
- Experience: Prior medical equipment experience preferred but not required.
Knowledge Skills & Abilities
- Basic mechanical aptitude and ability to perform equipment cleaning and minor repairs.
- Strong problem-solving skills.
- Effective communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to manage delivery routes efficiently.
- Ability to work independently.
- Reliable transportation and valid auto liability insurance.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift push pull and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Frequent stooping kneeling bending and reaching.
- Prolonged sitting and standing.
- Ability to work in warehouse environments with varying temperatures (hot/cold).
- Ability to meet deadlines in occasionally fast-paced or stressful situations.
Work Environment
Combination of warehouse office and field settings. Exposure to uncontrolled warehouse temperatures. Travel to patient homes and healthcare facilities required.
