Reporting to the Manager Corporate Finance and Reporting the Senior Financial Analyst provides financial insight that is instrumental to drive organizational objectives. The Senior Financial Analyst is a key point of contact for the organizations business leaders and represents finance on a cross-functional team for the day-to-day basics through to strategic initiatives.
This role provides analytical support within Corporate Finance and Reporting. It is responsible for reporting to the Ministry of Health Ontario Health and other internal and external stakeholders. It works closely with leaders to ensure that the reporting of actual and planned results is accurate and completed on a timely basis. The role uses working knowledge of Public Sector Accounting Standards Ontario Healthcare Reporting Standards and internal control best practices to make recommendations that ensure the high-quality financial information and sound business practices. Confident and effective interpersonal and communication skills allow them to identify and deliver relevant information through financial and statistical analysis. As a subject matter expert the Senior Financial Analyst must be able to present information accurately and concisely be attentive to detail work independently on time sensitive tasks and manage multiple priorities within short turnaround times.
Accountabilities:
- Deliver timely accurate and useful operating/management and financial data for the organization within designated time frames (i.e. weekly monthly) as well as ad hoc reports as requested by management
- Coordinate the annual financial statement audit of the organization by ensuring the timely information flow between the auditors and internal teams
- Prepare year-end working papers for external auditors
- Analyze and prepare month end financial results including but not limited to analysis of variances month to month and actual to plan operational volumes preparation of revenue and capital asset reports posting of required adjusting journal entries
- Perform key activities during the corporate month-end and year-end financial close processes including posting of sub-ledgers and journal entry preparation combined with analysis of results
- Coordinate and facilitate financial processes or projects by working closely with the Corporate Finance Financial Planning and Analysis and Organizational Performance teams
- Review interpret and monitor Ministry of Health funding letters and agreements
- Develop and implement financial models and improve processes to better meet the needs of the organization
- Accurate preparation and interpretation of financial/statistical reports for the Ministry of Health and other funding agencies
- Provide support and guidance to hospital programs and promote collaboration and teamwork
- Review financial results and provide value added analysis while maintaining a high customer satisfaction performance level
- Prepare account reconciliations on a monthly quarterly and annual basis supported by appropriate documentation and audit trail
- Develop systems and processes to improve process and policy review combined with compliance and internal control testing
- Support as required the development of the annual operating plan the long-range plan and periodic forecasts; challenge results and projections to identify lack of consistency with current economic trends and/or hospital strategies
- Ad hoc projects as assigned
Qualifications :
- Professional Accounting designation (CPA)
- Experience in health care sector preferred
- Solid understanding and working knowledge of Public Sector Accounting Standards (PSAS)
- Experience with Ministry of Health reporting management information system guidelines Ontario Healthcare Reporting Standards and Ontario cost distribution methodology
- Minimum five years experience in an analytical role
- Meditech system experience preferred
- Experience with Epic systems is an asset
- Highly motivated self-starter creative and results-oriented
- Ability to think strategically and systematically with strong critical thinking problem-solving and analytical skills
- Strong organizational and planning skills with the ability to work under tight timelines while ensuring focus on deadlines and key deliverables
- Strong oral interpersonal and written communication skills
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel Word and Access including financial modelling
- Proven ability to manage multiple and competing projects effectively
- Required to travel between all Osler sites
