Director of Special Education and Social Emotional LearningWestford Public Schools seeks to hire a dynamic student-centered leader for the role of Director of Special Education and Social Emotional Learning. This individual will be a licensed administrator with leadership experience in the area of special education who will work closely with other personnel in the following areas:
- fostering a safe and healthy learning environment for all students
- curriculum instruction and assessment

- budget preparation
- public relations
Nature and Scope of Job: Facilitates the development evaluation organization and implementation of our special education and social emotional learning practices and programs supporting students ages 3-21 that reflects the Districts mission vision and core values. Contributing member of the Superintendents central office cabinet and works collaboratively with the full District leadership team to nurture common understanding and practices related to special education and additional services that support the needs of all learners.

- Possession of a Masters degree
- Licensed as a Special Education Administrator in Massachusetts
- In-depth knowledge of laws and regulations pertaining to IDEA 504 and MA General Laws

Performance Responsibilities:The Director of Special Education and Social Emotional Learning is a licensed administrator who works closely with other personnel in performing administrative tasks in the areas of fostering a safe and healthy learning environment for students curriculum instruction and assessment teacher supervision recruitment professional development budget preparation and public relations. Specific duties include:
- Provides leadership and vision to ensure continuous organizational development and improvement
- Keeps abreast of community services and resources; develops partnerships with parents/caregivers businesses/organizations and other agencies in order to build awareness develop support and share resources
- Works with District leadership school administrators and special education staff to ensure that appropriate services are offered to students (ages 3 to 21) in the least restrictive setting
- Organizes implements and evaluates programs and/or activities designed to promote the students academic and social/emotional development
- Assists in the adaptation of school policies and practices to ensure the proper inclusion of all students
- Maintains compliance with federal and state special education laws and regulations
- Collaborates with building administration to monitor and support the operations of the special education services and programs across the District.
- Communicates and provides training as needed for changes in policies or regulations related to special education and students in other high needs categories
- Supports and guides all aspects of the budget pertaining to student services including grant management circuit breaker reimbursement and school choice and medicaid reporting
- Collaborates with the Transportation Coordinator and Director of Finance to provide appropriate transportation services for both in-district and out-of-district students
- Thoughtfully supervises and evaluates assigned staff members
- Collaborates with building principals in the supervision of special education staff counselors student support leaders/assistant principals nurses BCBAs and school psychologists
- Fosters a positive working relationship with the Special Education Parent Advisory Council
- Serves as the District Section 504 Coordinator
- Serves as the McKinney Vento homeless education liaison
- Serves as the point of contact for Department of Children and Families and students in foster care
- Assist in the coordination and delivery of professional development opportunities for staff in cooperation with District initiatives related to student support and services
- Builds and maintains an exceptionally positive work environment
- Assumes the responsibility of complying and maintaining all reports and records legally required and/or administratively requested relative to special education (e.g. special education indicators tiered-focus monitoring significant disproportionality etc.)
- Performs related duties as assigned by the Superintendent of Schools
Terms of Employment: 12 months per year
Evaluation: The Superintendent will evaluate the Director of Special Education and Social Emotional Learning annually.
