THE DEPARTMENT

The Seattle Department of Neighborhoods (DON) is responsible for strengthening Seattle by engaging all communities. Our purpose is to bring government closer to Seattles residents by engaging them in civic participation empowering them to make positive contributions to their communities and involving more of Seattles Black Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC) communities in civic discussions processes and opportunities.

THE JOB

DON is recruiting a new Senior Finance Analyst to join our team and support our community-centered work. We are looking for a combination of strong budget-tracking and reporting skills and the motivation and ability to work well with internal and external partners with varying levels of technical expertise in this role you will work closely with the Finance Director to collaborate on budget monitoring fiscal year-end closing activities and continually improve systems and work processes.

Your work will include:

Day-to-day accounting operations perform and lead core governmental accounting and financial management functions including accounts payable credit card accounting accounts receivable billing encumbrance accounting project costing reconciliations general ledger maintenance and payroll processing.

Financial reporting prepare and present regular and ad hoc financial reports and presentations for management and partners translating complex financial data into clear actionable insights to support decision-making.

Financial analysis analyze operating budgets expenditures revenues and fund balances; identify trends and variances investigate discrepancies and work collaboratively with program managers leadership and oversight entities to resolve issues and improve financial controls.

  • Proficiency in Excel PeopleSoft Workday Power BI and Access
  • Worked with large data sets and pivot tables
  • Created projections and forecasts
  • Compared budgets to actual spending and addressed variances
  • Identified errors and managed corrective action in a personable and solutions-oriented manner

Qualifications

In addition to the skills and experience listed above this job requires the following (or a combination of training experience or education that provides the skills needed to perform the job):

Five years of professional experience in budget management financial analysis accounting or related work

Or

Four years of professional experience in budget management financial analysis accounting or related work and an associate degree in business or public administration finance accounting or a related field

or

Three years of professional experience in budget management financial analysis accounting or related work and a bachelors degree in business or public administration finance accounting or a related field

Additional Information

This job is classified as a Finance Analyst Senior. The salary range is $54.01-$62.90. New City employees start at Step 1 in a 5-step salary schedule. Personnel Rules will determine the salary placement of current regular City employees.


This position offers the flexibility of a hybrid work schedule. Individual schedules will be based on agreement between the employee and management.
