Job Summary

POSITION TITLE: FT Teacher and School Nurse

Courses to include but not limited to:

  • Intro to Health and Medical Sciences
  • Intro to Medical Terminology
  • Nurses Aide

FLSA: Exempt

QUALIFICATIONS: Must hold proper state certification prefer endorsements in the subject area(s) to which assigned

REPORTS TO: Principal and/or other Supervisor

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Teach high school level Nurse Aide course based on state curriculum
  2. Participate in curriculum review and design
  3. Implement a variety of effective instructional strategies consistent with lesson objectives
  4. Diagnose and evaluates student abilities and progress in a timely and consistent manner
  5. Monitor student progress and adjust instruction accordingly
  6. Plan a program of study that meets the individual needs interests and abilities of the students
  7. Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning
  8. Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required
  9. Refer students for alternative services as provided by the District (ESL Reading Special Reading)
  10. Effectively implement district initiatives
  11. Effectively collaborate with department and grade level teachers.
  12. Responsible for performing professional nursing care and providing health care services to students and staff in a public school setting
  13. Organizes the health clinic at the assigned school
  14. Performs and interprets health screenings and medical examinations
  15. Assesses student health needs
  16. Administers emergency care / first aid treatment
  17. Provides health counseling
  18. Conducts related workshops
  19. Provide a safe and healthy environment in order to maximize students potential to learn

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Abide by state statutes school board policies and regulations.
  2. Attend meeting and perform duties as assigned by administrators or supervisors.
  3. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students equipment materials and facilities.
  4. Maintain accurate complete and correct records as required by law district policy and administrative regulation.
  5. Serve on committees as assigned.
  6. Remain current on instructional practices in education.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge Skills and/or Abilities Required)

  • Must have graduated from an accredited school of professional nursing with some work experience as a Registered Nurse. Bachelors degree in nursing preferred. Must be licensed or eligible for licensure as a RN by the Virginia Board of Nursing.
  • Licensure requires two years of experience as a registered nurse and at least one year of direct client care or supervisory experience in the provision of long-term care services.
  • Must have knowledge of professional nursing principles practices and techniques within a public school environment to include knowledge of human anatomy physiology child growth/development basic pharmacology medical terminology and infection control measures.
  • Must possess the ability to organize a clinic and supervise staff. Must possess the ability to manage the health of students and exercise judgment in the application of nursing care.
  • Must possess skills in standard nursing procedures and the ability to perform/interpret health screenings and physical examinations.
  • Must possess the ability to maintain comprehensive health records prepare clear/concise medical reports and use appropriate computer systems.
  • Must possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students staff parents/guardians and outside agencies.

Conditions of Employment:
Employment with Radford City Schools is contingent upon successful completion of a criminal background investigation and child protective services registry check.

Licensure/Certification:
Employees in positions requiring professional licensure must hold or be eligible for appropriate Virginia licensure with the required endorsement(s) at the time of employment and must maintain such licensure throughout employment.

Employees must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation. Physical demands may include but are not limited to standing for extended periods supervising students in various settings moving throughout school facilities and lifting instructional materials or equipment.
