As our National Housing Advocacy Lead you will be at the heart of this mission shaping the national conversation on housing and driving highimpact advocacy that influences policy at every level of government. You will champion the voices of people and communities who rely on us build trusted relationships with key decisionmakers and help position Mission Australia as a leading force for meaningful housing reform.

In this role you will engage confidently across all sides of government while remaining strictly nonpartisan ensuring our advocacy is grounded in evidence integrity and the needs of the people we serve. While this position is based in the ACT we warmly welcome exceptional candidates from Sydney Melbourne or Brisbane who can travel frequently and work flexibly to lead this important work across Australia.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • Understand Mission Australias housing priorities and ensure all advocacy work aligns with these goals.
  • Lead review and maintain the National Housing Advocacy Strategy monitoring progress and identifying new advocacy opportunities.
  • Prepare clear updates reports and advice for senior leaders committees and boards on housing policy and advocacy needs.
  • Build and strengthen relationships with government representatives and key decisionmakers to advance housing priorities.
  • Represent Mission Australia at meetings forums and sector events sharing insights and bringing back key information.
  • Collaborate with sector partners peak bodies and campaigns to progress shared housing advocacy goals.
  • Analyse housing policy and produce clear evidencebased materials such as submissions briefing papers and responses.
  • Gather data case studies and insights from across services to strengthen advocacy messages and policy positions.

Requirements for success

  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant field such as government relations social housing business commerce finance or a related discipline.
  • 35 years experience in advocacy government relations or policy work within the notforprofit housing or homelessness sectors.
  • Strong understanding of housing and homelessness policy across federal state and territory systems.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain effective relationships with government stakeholders ministers offices peak bodies and sector partners.
  • Excellent written communication skills including the ability to produce highquality policy analysis submissions and briefing papers.
  • Strong verbal communication and stakeholderengagement capability with confidence representing the organisation in external forums.
  • Ability to work autonomously manage competing priorities and meet deadlines in a fastpaced evolving environment.
  • Solid knowledge of the social and affordable housing landscape including the role of community housing providers.

Before starting work with us you will need to undertake a national police history check qualifications and referee checks and have a clearance to work with children/vulnerable people.
