Tech Lead Software Engineering (contract or perm roles)

As a Lead Software Engineer at NCS Australia you will take ownership of the software design lifecycle for our most significant client engagements. This is a high-impact leadership role where you will validate that every solution we deliver is not only high-performing but also inherently secure and scalable. You will be the primary facilitator for critical design decisions balancing immediate project needs with long-term architectural integrity. Your expertise will ensure that our engineering teams are navigating technical debt effectively while delivering cutting-edge solutions that meet the rigorous demands of national-scale infrastructure.

In this position you will work at the intersection of strategy and execution. You will collaborate closely with Architects to translate high-level roadmaps into actionable engineering designs ensuring a seamless flow from concept to production. A core part of your responsibility involves risk management; you will identify technical bottlenecks and security vulnerabilities early in the design phase implementing mitigation strategies that protect both the client and the user. You will be the guardian of engineering excellence ensuring that the principles of TDD BDD and automated CI/CD are not just followed but optimized across the entire delivery stream.

Qualifications :

• Technical Authority: You possess deep expertise in the Java (Spring Boot) or .NET (C#) ecosystems with a proven track record of designing complex distributed systems.

• Architectural Partner: You speak the language of both engineers and architects with the ability to validate system designs for Azure or AWS environments using microservices and containerization (Docker/Kubernetes).

• Decisive Facilitator: You excel at leading technical discussions breaking deadlocks in design decisions and articulating the why behind specific technology choices to stakeholders.

• Risk Manager: You have a proactive mindset toward security and scalability with experience navigating the compliance requirements of highly regulated federal or enterprise sectors.

• Engineering Champion: You are an advocate for modern practices including TDD/BDD CI/CD automation and DevSecOps ensuring these are embedded in the teams DNA.

• Mentor & Coach: You take pride in growing the capabilities of others providing constructive feedback and clear career guidance to mid-level and senior engineers.

• Strategic Communicator: You can translate high-level business risks into technical priorities and present complex architectural concepts to client leadership with confidence and wit.

• Willing and able to obtain a AGSV Security clearance.
