Summary of Job Duties:
We are seeking an experienced and strategic professional to assume the role of Assistant Dean for Finance & Administration at the College of Public Health. This critical leadership position involves directing all financial and administrative functions of the college working closely with the Dean Associate and Assistant Deans Department Chairs and other key leaders to drive the colleges mission forward. As the chief administrative and financial officer the Assistant Dean will report directly to the COPH Dean and maintain an indirect reporting line to the UAMS Vice Chancellor for Finance. The role also includes responsibilities as the IPE/COPH Building Manager requiring effective coordination across UAMS colleges and divisions. Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in a related field
- Seven (7) years of financial and administrative experience in an academic setting
- Understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
Preferred Qualifications
- Masters degree

- CPA license (either active or inactive)
Knowledge Skills & Abilities:
- Financial Expertise: Understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and fund accounting principles.
- Leadership: Ability to provide strategic guidance and manage complex administrative operations.
- HR Management: Experience in sensitive employee relations and compliance reporting.
- Space and Resource Management: Oversight of building operations space planning and procurement.
- Communication: Strong advisory and collaborative skills with internal and external stakeholders.
- Technical Proficiency: Familiarity with systems like Workday Blackbaud and contract management tools
Additional Information:
Key Responsibilities:
- Financial Management: Oversee the colleges financial health including budget development resource analysis cost control and compliance. Manage external and internal financial reporting faculty productivity metrics incentive plans and deans commitments to faculty.
- Operations Management: Manage day-to-day business operations ensuring compliance with regulations and policies. Oversee HR issues adjunct faculty space management security construction needs procurement and inventory tracking.
- Advisory Role: Provide guidance to college leadership on financial and administrative policies counsel on faculty conflict of interest strategic investments and recruitment. Act as the COPH signatory in various campus systems.
- Liaison Duties: Serve as a financial and administrative liaison to external academic bodies and UAMS divisions including Finance Human Resources and other colleges.
- May perform other duties as assigned to aid UAMSs and the COPH Mission.
