Position Duties/Responsibilities

McNeese State University seeks an inspiring artist and educator to teach applied undergraduate lessons in woodwind instruments. The successful candidate will:


  • Effectively teach applied instrumental lessons (clarinet and saxophone and if qualified double reeds) at the undergraduate level including performance majors and music education majors each semester.
  • Actively recruit and retain woodwind majors for the music performance and music education programs.
  • Effectively teach a Woodwind Instrument Class.
  • Effectively teach in a secondary academic expertise to complete workload requirements and sustain the academic needs of the department in areas such as but not limited to music theory music history or music education.
  • Work to achieve the established departmental teaching goals each academic year.
  • Maintain an active performance career commensurate with teaching load.

The successful candidate is expected to fully participate in departmental activities. The candidate will work closely with the students and faculty of the W.A. and Dorothy Hanna Department of Performing Arts by contributing to the artistic development of the students and supporting the artistic and academic life of the department the University and the community.

Required/Preferred Qualifications

Required:

  • Terminal degree must be completed prior to start of appointment (August 2026).
  • Candidate must be qualified to teach applied lessons in clarinet saxophone.

Preferred:

  • Consideration may be given to candidates with demonstrated success teaching at the college level.
  • Nationally recognized artistic performer.
  • Ability to teach double reeds along with clarinet and saxophone.
