As an Accountant V youll play a vital role in reviewing contracts and amendments to ensure proper fund certification and encumbrance managing debt service across funds preparing detailed financial statements and reports and diving deep into financial data analysis. If youre detail-oriented and thrive in a dynamic environment we want you on our team!

What You Will Do
  • Monitor review reconcile andprepare journal entries for debt service.
  • Prepare special reports exhibits for the Budget and Fiscal Services Directors quarterly reports and schedules for the Annual Comprehensive Financial Reports in accordance with Governmental Accounting Standard requirements.
  • Analyze the general ledger accounts and the revenue and expenditure transactions for all City funds except the enterprise funds.
  • Supervise the Control Accounts Bookkeeper involved in processing contracts petty cash and change fund control and Accounting Section inventory control.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

At time of application you must be a citizen national or permanent resident alien of the United States or a non-citizen eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment.


EDUCATION REQUIREMENT:
Equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelors degree in accounting or in business administration with courses in accounting. (Note: At least 12 semester credits in accounting or auditing courses is needed six of which must be above the beginning or elementary course level from an accredited four-year college or university).


Substitution:Work experience may be substituted for the bachelors degree on a year-for-year basis. Such experience must have provided the knowledge skills and analytical ability normally gained from attainment of a bachelors degree in accounting or business administration with courses in accounting.


The education requirement must be met at the time of application. Education obtained outside of the United States must be comparable to a degree earned at an accredited college/university in the United order to receive credit for the education proper documentation e.g. a foreign credential evaluation (FCE) must be provided. We also reserve the right to request further information about your academic program evidence of comparability or an original transcript.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:
Four (4) years of progressively responsible work experience in professionalaccounting including or supplemented by work experience demonstrating aptitude or potential.


Supervisory aptitude or potential may be demonstrated through:
  • Successful completion of regular or special assignments which involve some supervisory responsibilities or aspects.
  • Serving as a group or team leader or in similar work in which opportunities for demonstrating supervisory capabilities exist.
  • Completion of training courses in supervision accompanied by application of supervisory skills in work assignments.
  • Favorable appraisals by a supervisor indicating the possession of supervisory potential.


Substitution: A Masters degree in Accounting from an accredited four-year college or university will substitute forone of the required four years of professional accounting experience.

Applicable Skills Needed:

  • Knowledge ofprinciples and practices of commercial and governmental accounting.
  • Knowledge of preparation and analysis of financial statements and reports.
  • Knowledge of public fiscal administration including budgeting and financial reporting.
  • Knowledge of accounting system and procedures of the assigned agency.
  • Knowledge ofprinciples and practices of supervision.
  • Ability to devise and install accounting methods techniques and procedures.
  • Ability to plan assign and direct the work of subordinates.
  • Ability to prepare complete and accurate reports and standards.
  • Ability to analyze data detect errors and correct inconsistencies in accounting records.
