Job Posting: HBCU NCDMV Commissioners Office Internship: Office of Modernization
Location: NCDMV Headquarters Rocky Mount NC (with travel to Raleigh)
Internship Duration: 10-week internship (May 26-July 31 2026)
About the Role:
Join the North Carolina Division of Motor Vehicles (NCDMV) Commissioners Office as an intern and support a major enterprise-wide system modernization initiative. This high-visibility internship provides hands-on exposure to large-scale government IT transformation as NCDMV transitions from legacy mainframe systems to a modern scalable and efficient technology platform.
Based primarily in Rocky Mount NC with potential work in Raleigh NC the intern will support project coordination stakeholder engagement vendor oversight and business process improvement efforts. Working closely with leadership project teams and external vendors the intern will gain insight into executive-level decision-making digital transformation and public-sector innovation.
Responsibilities:
Support stakeholder engagement activities including meeting coordination note-taking and follow-up actions.
Assist with tracking project milestones deliverables risks and vendor performance metrics.
Participate in testing and validation activities for new system components.
Help prepare reports presentations dashboards and communication materials for leadership.
Conduct research on best practices in IT modernization digital transformation and customer experience improvement.
Support day-to-day project management and coordination activities within the Commissioners Office.
Preferred Qualifications:
Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Information Technology Computer Science Business Administration Public Administration or a related field.
Strong analytical organizational and problem-solving skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Familiarity with project management tools such as Jira Trello or MS Project is a plus.
Interest in public-sector innovation technology modernization and digital transformation initiatives.
Ability to work effectively in a dynamic multi-location environment with diverse stakeholders.

Eligibility Requirements:
- Must be a currently enrolled full-time student in a bachelors masters or professional level program at an accredited or recently graduated from a North Carolina Historically Black College/University (HBCU) or Minority Serving Institution (MSI) by May 2026.
- 24 credit hours completed.
- Minimum overall GPA of 2.5 (on 4.0 scale)
- Has legal right to work in the U.S. and do not need sponsorship
