The student will work with members of the Office of Funded Programs government grants administration team to gain professional experience working with sub-awardees of the American Heart Association that are accelerating health improvement outcomes in communities by supporting health education strategies and creating culturally competent resources that can be utilized by communities to prevent or manage cardiovascular disease hypertension and stroke. The American Heart Associations Internship Program provides college students an opportunity for hands-on experience in various facets for individuals interested in gaining work experience with a non-profit voluntary health organization.

Internship Overview:

  • Time Commitment: 20-25 hours per week
  • Internship Duration: 5/18/26-8/21/26
  • Location: Remote
  • Salary: $23.00 per hour

Responsibilities

  • Government Grants Compliance Administration & Operations
    • Assist in organizing grant documentation tracking submissions and deadlines maintaining internal records supporting audit preparation activities and conducting basic research on federal or grantor specific guidance to enhance compliance and operational efficiency.
  • Cross-Functional Coordination & Review Facilitation
    • Support coordination and communication with implementation finance procurement and legal teams to facilitate review of grant and contract award actions including budget revisions amendments reporting submissions and other post-award actions.
  • Assist the government grants administration team in communicating impact stories and lessons learned from sub-awardee administration.
  • Identify impact stories for showcasing enhance via research and interviews and develop communication pieces for online or offline sharing.
  • Attend internal and external meetings as requested including health fairs and community events as necessary.



Qualifications

Candidates who are seniors or graduate students pursuing a degree in public policy public health nonprofit management public administration government relations finance and other related degree programs.
An interest in non-profit and grants administration is strongly preferred.
Program management portfolio management project management research interests.
Exposure to federal agencies (local or municipal) is preferred but not required.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required including professional interaction with colleagues.
Ability to learn quickly and have focused attention to detail.
Intermediate to excellent proficiency in MS Word Excel Outlook Teams and PowerPoint.
Required Equipment: Reliable Wi-Fi connection.
Minimum availability of 20 hrs/wk M-F between the hours of 9am-5pm.
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship now or in the future. For any roles working remotely the work must also be performed inside the United States not in a foreign country.
