Position Summary
Under the direction of the Finance Controller the Junior Accountant supports the Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs Inc. (AMC) financial operations by assisting with day-to-day accounting functions maintaining accurate financial records and ensuring compliance with internal controls accounting standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with accounts payable functions such as data entry payment preparation vendor account reconciliation and batch review
- Assist with accounts receivable processing such as cash application and customer account reconciliation
- Reconcile bank statements and general ledger accounts
- Prepare adjusting journal entries
- Support month-end and year-end close processes
- Assist in preparing financial reports schedules and summaries as needed
- Maintain accurate documentation and audit trails
- Support internal and external audits as needed
- Maintain organized financial files and records
- Assist with payroll processing and benefit reconciliations as needed
- Respond to internal finance-related inquiries
- Ensure compliance with internal policies
- Provide backup support for other finance team members
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Diploma in Accounting studying towards a financial designation or related field (or equivalent experience)
- 12 years of accounting or bookkeeping experience
- Basic knowledge of accounting principles and financial processes
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software
- Familiarity with Sage or similar accounting systems
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Good organizational and time-management skills
- Ability to follow established procedures and meet deadlines
- Willingness to learn and take direction
- Ability to work independently
- Professional communication and teamwork skills
- Must be able to work well under pressure and meet deadlines
- Knowledge of general office procedures practices maintains confidentiality and office equipment operations
- Demonstrated computer knowledge capabilities in Microsoft Office (Word Excel PowerPoint and Outlook)
- Knowledge of First Nation culture history and issues.
- Must be able to work flexible hours
- Must provide a current satisfactory Criminal Record Check and Clear Child Abuse Registry Check
