POSITION DESCRIPTION: Assistant Superintendent for Administrative Services

REPORTS TO:Superintendent

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 12-Month Work Calendar Administrative Compensation Plan and Benefits in Accordance with Board Policies.

GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Assistant Superintendent of Administrative Services is the leader responsible for overseeing and aligning critical
district administrative functions processes and special projects that engage multiple departments and school sites.
The Assistant Superintendent of Administrative Services reports directly to the Superintendent.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The following statements of duties and responsibilities are intended to describe the general nature and level of work
being performed by the individual assigned to this position. These statements are not intended to be an exhaustive list

assignments and other factors.

  • Assisting the Superintendent in providing leadership and vision to develop achieve and maintain the MUSD Mission and Vision and goals strategies and key objectives described in the Districts Strategic Plan
  • Assisting with the management of the Districts operations management and services
  • Collaborating with all members of the MUSD Administrative Leadership Team
  • Providing technical information and assistance to the Superintendent regarding District programs services activities needs and issues
  • Serving as Superintendents designee with school administration regarding student discipline concerns suspensions expulsion
  • Assisting the Superintendent with all aspects of school and district safety
  • Resolving parent concerns that escalate beyond the school level
  • Coaching and mentoring principals informally and formally
  • Providing immediate assistance to inquiries from school administrators regarding campus issues
  • Providing technical and administrative assistance to school administrators
  • Coordinating the dissemination of information policies regulations procedures and reports to school administrators
  • Presenting information to teachers staff community representatives on various topics to convey information and gather feedback
  • Working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders (principals teachers directors City of Maricopa Pinal County neighboring school districts community organizations etc.) to coordinate efforts and provide valuable resources services and opportunities for schools students and staff
  • Managing short-term and long-term contracts Intergovernmental Agreements and vendor contracts that fall within the scope of the Superintendents office
  • Serving as plant manager of district office
  • Providing oversight and supervision of district office custodial staff
  • Maintaining interpreting and complying with governing board policy
  • Recommending revisions to governing board policy
  • Maintaining interpreting and complying with current State and Federal Law
  • Perform all other duties as assigned

  • Successful experience in unifying motivating developing supporting empowering and trusting a high performing team of administrators teachers principals and support staff.
  • Current knowledge of best practices continuous improvement strategies and high expectations for performance; commitment to maintaining high standards and increasing accountability for results at all levels.
  • Current knowledge of school reform theories.
  • Successful experience in working well in diverse economic multicultural and multi-lingual communities and environments; culturally-competent.
  • High-energy and inspirational leadership; displaying vision self-confidence integrity and risk-taking; willingness to be a relentless and passionate advocate for all children.
  • Advanced written verbal and listening skills; excellent organization skills.
  • Advanced experience with public school policy procedure and management; thorough understanding of national state and local educational goals and standards and operations of K-12 public education in Arizona.
  • Demonstrated successful record of fiscal accountability and data-driven decision-making; managing a highly competent team to oversee daily operations and finances; highly developed accounting and budgeting skills; advanced ability to collect analyze and interpret data.
  • Superior interpersonal skills with the ability and experience to develop effective relationships.
  • Excellent public relations leadership facilitation management decision-making and collaboration skills.
  • Excellent technology skills.
  • English language skills required.
  • Oral and written fluency in second language may be preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required stand; sit; use hands to finger handle or feel; or reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to walk; climb or balance; stoop kneel crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. There are no specific vision abilities required by this job.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.

MENTAL FUNCTIONS:

While performing the duties of this job the employee regularly is required to compare analyze communicate coordinate instruct synthesize evaluate use interpersonal skills compile and negotiate. The employee frequently is required to compute. The employee occasionally is required to copy.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Arizona Superintendents Certification
  • Five years successful classroom teaching and previous administrative experience at the school and district level is
  • Masters Degree in Education is
  • Doctorate in Education or Educational Leadership preferred.
