The Support Lead plays a key role in ensuring inclusive high-quality day camp experiences that support the success of every child. The role provides leadership and coordination for a team of 27 counsellors supporting staff performance program consistency and alignment with Day Camp program manuals and collaboration with Camp Directors the Support Lead contributes to staff development training and coverage planning while maintaining health and safety standards. The position also provides hands-on operational support to ensure a safe organized and engaging camp environment.
In this role you will:
- Support Day Camp Directors in supervising Day Camp Counsellors to ensure they effectively fulfill their roles and responsibilities
- Provide leadership to the camp staff team by monitoring performance coaching and mentoring staff delivering ongoing feedback and conducting performance appraisals for direct reports
- Facilitate programs and support the training of camp staff to ensure consistent and effective program delivery
- Support Counsellors with program delivery by ensuring alignment with program manuals assisting with set-up and take-down activities organizing program equipment and confirming that all required materials are available
- Assist in covering counsellor breaks and staff absences and deliver programs as required
- Ensure health and safety procedures are followed and maintained and contribute to the cleaning safety and general maintenance of camp sites
- Attend all staff trainings and meetings arrive on time and actively participate and contribute to the development of the camp staff team
- Act as a positive role model for campers and staff by embodying YMCA values policies and procedures Day Camp conditions of employment and guidelines and Ontario Camping Association standards
- Perform other duties as assigned
You bring:
- Completed or currently enrolled in post-secondary education preferred
- Standard First Aid & CPR-C certification required by the first day of employment and valid until at least the last day of the contract
- Minimum one year of experience working in a camp environment
- Experience with YMCA Day Camps considered an asset
- Experience delivering leadership programming or workshops for youth
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
- Well-developed interpersonal and relationship-building skills with the ability to establish rapport and communicate effectively with families staff and volunteers
- Excellent communication skills and ability to lead and engage a group of children
- Commitment to diversity equity inclusion and building a sense of belonging
