DescriptionThis posting is for two different positions: Summer Camp Instructor I and Summer Camp Instructor II. We are seeking up to 7 Instructors Is and 6 Instructor IIs.
These positions are seasonal starting in July with an expected end date of September 1 2026
The Child & Youth Summer Camp Instructor I will be responsible for assisting the Child & Youth Programs Summer Camp Instructor II with the implementation of age appropriate themed child & youth recreational camps. Ensuring the development and safety of participants Instructor I will support Instructor II in leading activities designed to increase childrens emotional and social development creativity and fundamental movement skills. This will be achieved through a variety of structured and non-structured recreational activities that take place in a variety of environments.
The Child & Youth Summer Camp Instructor II will be responsible for the overall planning and delivery of summer camps. The Instructor II will plan implement and evaluate age appropriate themed recreational camps. The Instructor II will ensure programs are designed to increase childrens emotional and social development creativity and fundamental movement skills. This will be achieved through a variety of structured and non-structured recreational activities that take place in a variety of environments. The Child & Youth Summer Camp Instructor II will provide leadership and guidance to Instructor Is in order to create a cohesive team environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Instructor I
- Develop and implement creative age-appropriate program plans based on camp theme
- Assist the Instructor II in the delivery of camp activities based on the High Five philosophy supporting childrens emotional and social development creativity and fundamental movement skill progression
- Responsible for supporting and assisting the Instructor II with managing participant forms and
- documents. Ensure pertinent information is communicated to camp staff team as well as communicating any issues or concerns to the Instructor II and Recreation Programmer.
- Provide participants with the opportunity to engage in a balance of high energy (ie. sports) and quiet activities (ie. crafts)
- Provide excellent guest service for program participants including greeting and welcoming each program participant and create a positive rapport with parents/guardians
- Collaborate and positively interact within a team environment
- Effectively communicate both verbally and written with guests supervisors and peers.
- Maintain professionalism through presentable appearance being prompt and prepared for each shift
- Participate in various training and meetings for the purpose of sharing information and/or improving skills and knowledge.
Instructor II (In addition to responsibilities for Instructor I)
- Overall delivery of camp activities based on the High Five philosophy supporting childrens emotional and social development creativity and fundamental movement skill progression
- Lead role in creating coordinating instructor ideas and submitting program plans along with supply lists
- Instruction of up to 30 children in a safe and positive camp environment while following policies and procedures outlined in summer camp training
- Equipment management lead including: Set up/take down of camp room assess safety of program equipment and uphold a clean safe and inviting camp room at all times
- Responsible for pick up/drop off of program equipment and supplies
- Ensure participants and parents are greeted into a welcoming environment. Take the lead role on parent inquiries and/or concerns
- Provide leadership and mentorship to Leaders in Training summer participants along with the completion of their weekly evaluations
- Lead role in communicating both verbally and written with guests supervisors and peers.
Skills & Qualifications:
- A high school diploma and enrolled in a post-secondary institution for recreation physical education education and/or related degree
- High Five Principles of Healthy Child Development (must be obtained prior to camps starting)
- Strong leadership and team-building skills
- Experience working with youth between the ages of 5Y-15Y
- Ability to maintain high standards of safety quality and cooperation
- Experience with sports games activities swimming and crafts
- Proven time management skills and the ability to work with minimal supervision
- Outstanding customer service and communication skills
- Ability to adapt to changing work environments and demands
Conditions of Employment:
- Submission of current First Aid CPR (level C) certification
- Satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check
