- Minimum of 3 years of progressively responsible experience in parks maintenance construction or operations
- Experience includes a minimum of 2 years of supervisory experience
Skills required for success:
- Proven ability to lead coach and advise multiple crews simultaneously while managing two diverse portfolios
- Experience with managing a fleet of equipment specializing in mowing and snow & ice clearing operations
- Experience in managing seasonal transitions specifically the high-volume hiring and recall of part-time staff
- Lead the full staffing lifecycle for field operations including recruitment technical training and performance management while mentoring Crew Leads to foster a culture of professional growth
- Ensure a safe high-performance work environment by directing staff activities managing comprehensive training records and upholding rigorous safety and equipment standards
- Strong written and verbal skills used to navigate complex inquiries from the Mayors office Council and engagement participants
- Ability to make independent decisions in the field especially when navigating unpredictable weather and changing priorities
- Skilled in preparing reports monitoring budget expenditures and exercising cost control measures
- Experience with Google Workspace LMS SDMS SAP and ArcGIS
- Knowledge of City policies procedures bylaws and the collective agreement with CUPE Local 30
- Knowledge of City/Department policies procedures standards and relevant legislation (i.e. OH&S WHMIS)
- Ability to assist in the management of financial resources

Conditions of Employment:
- Valid Alberta Class 5 drivers licence (or provincial equivalent). Obtaining and maintaining a City Drivers permit is a requirement of this position
- Successful candidates will be fit for a respirator and compliance with the City of Edmontons Code of Practice for Respiratory Protective Equipment including medical monitoring is a requirement of this position
- Compliance with the City of Edmontons safety standards for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as wearing steel-toe boots gloves goggles sunscreen and coveralls
- Possession of Standard First Aid Certificate
Work Environment:
- The role involves working outdoors in various weather conditions and terrains
- Exposure to environmental conditions including extreme temperatures inclement weather dust noise light variation vibrations chemicals animals and exposure to mechanical and electrical hazards may occur

What will you do
Summer Operations (April to October)
- Report to the Mowing & Trimming Manager to oversee the ongoing operation of the mowing & trimming maintenance work plan within Parks & Urban Forestry
- Provide operations support leadership and supervision of field crews in the primary tasks of mowing and trimming grass throughout city parkland
- Coordinate with Landscape Technicians to plan and update inventory and routing for mowing & trimming maintenance
- Help contribute to the purchase or lease of equipment and necessary supplies to maintain the mowing & trimming inventory
Winter Operations (November to March)
- Report to the Active Pathways (AP) Manager to implement the AP snow removal portion of the Snow and Ice program
- Supervise the clearing of city-owned sidewalks bike lanes parking lots staircases and bus stops
- Manage the winter inventory and oversee preventive equipment maintenance and replacement programs
- Provide operational supervision and leadership at the field level to deliver approved winter work plans
Safety and Leadership
- Promote a safe work environment and maintain rigorous records for employees regarding safety mandatory and functional training
- Ensure all staff are oriented and trained on all tasks and equipment they are asked to use
- Conduct field inspections of Crew Leaders and staff to ensure compliance with OH&S Alberta and City standards
- Create review and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Hazard Assessments and Controls (HA&Cs)
- Conduct investigations and complete WCB reports for internal submission and IDC investigations
